Interesting little beast. One wonders if the various parts - other than the barrel - can be made with on of those 3-D printers, or if the whole thing can be manufactured with hand and rudimentary power tools in a garage.
Some welrods were smoothbores, You can make them in your basement with pipe,hand tools and a welder. It is a zipgun with a suppressor. They like the .45 libarator. are as simple as firearms get.

Or is something like the Sten Gun easier?

Given the choice, I'd rather have a Sten with a silencer. That way, you can have quiet if you need it, or rock-n-roll if you don't.
I'd stay away from the whole concept of 3-D printers. To me, nothing beats forged steel and welding. Just my opinion.
