Hoplophobia outbreak in Utah.

Editorial writers made hysterical by open carry.
This bill begs the question whether openly carrying a gun in a public place is, by itself, disorderly conduct. We think it is, for the simple reason that it will cause fear, if not panic, among many people who see this behavior.
Why is that guy carrying a gun? What does he intend? I should call the cops. Those are the thoughts that will dart through the mind of most onlookers. Does it disturb the peace of these people? Absolutely.

Sounds like an editor's editorial from the Salt Lake Tribune. Liberal rag.

That is why people need to openly carry their sidearms everywhere they go so that the assholes in the street get reprogrammed and reconditioned. Even if they are concealed or if they are not carried at all, it should be made known in every conversation, every encounter with another human being, that you own and carry a gun. I make sure every checkout clerk sees my .40 when I open my handbag to pay for what I just purchased. I make a point of letting everyone from bank teller to the lady behind the Macy's perfume counter that I have been armed for protection...theirs and mine...when I have been a patron. And when I see the local fish and game officer sporting theirs openly on their hip at the local coffeeshop, I pull my jacket back and make DAMN sure they see mine.

All that blood running down the street... shootouts on ever corner, road rage shootings...

Missouri allows open carry but they allow premption by the communities. So even though State say yay, the towns can say nay. My town allows open carry but the Chief of Police has said for every call they get about "man with a gun" they will put you on the ground. If I had the bucks I'd do it just to see how many suits i could rack up aginst the city.

BAH - the 'editors' made a blanket statement with absolutely NO basis in fact - just their knee jerk hoplophope perceptions. I lived in Virginia (open carry state) for 7-1/2 years and saw countless CITIZENS open carrying and while I sometimes wondered what their motivation was - the point is that it was their legal right to do so.

BTW - even with a degree in psychology I never could determine if they were potential wild eyed lunatics just waiting for an excuse to start blazing away (sarc off)

Whoa! You had me going there for a moment. But then I saw it was the SLC Trib, a known lefty rag, that would fit in any blue state, so I was relieved.

Remember SLC elected "Rocky" Anderson, anti-war leftist. And there's U of Utah polluting the waters of rationality there in SLC, as well.

Now if that editorial was from Provo, we're in deep doodoo!

Maybe they should move to Texas where open carry isn't permitted. Or how about Chicago where guns aren't even permitted.

They use all the same tired old arguments that have no basis in fact - "it would be like the old west", or "the gun carrier might be a lunatic bent on chaos".

I'm really not concerned with someone's level of discomfort with regards to me exercising my constitutional rights.

I'm shocked. Not one mention of the OK corral in the editorial. That's what the left-wingers wore out, here in Pennsylvania when the No Retreat law was passed. The Castle Doctrine was extended to cars, sidewalks, parks you name it. That was passed last June-July and to date, there has been one shooting and that was a man defending his home with a bow and arrow. (He killed the perp.) Now this will come as a complete surprise to everyone on this board; Not one left-winger has come forward and said,"Gee, was I wrong"!

DD,
Nice one. Had to fight back a choking fit. Mind if I try to get it published in the same liberal rag, errr, newspaper?

How do these people get on the road, where homicidal maniacs in their cars and trucks may decide to ram you with their vehicles or run over innocent children and the elderly? Think of the possibilities!

The Salt Lake Tribune is the largest daily Progressive-Quisling “newspaper” in Salt Lake City. Their editorial policy has more in common with Paul Joseph Goebbels theories of effective Propaganda than reporting or news.

If it was not for the extra constitutional protections for blatant lying (or bearing of false witness if you prefer) conferred on the press by Socialist-activist judges they would have been sued out of existence years ago.

Driving small businesses out of business after the owner has criticized one of the Tribs favored pet politicians, Covering up falsification of records, blaming the police for results of criminal activity, and supporting criminals and government violation over productive citizens are among their standard behavior.

They are consistently anti self-defense because what they fear most is their victims stopping them, Permanently!

Its time we all stopped laughing at these soldiers of our domestic enemies and started identifying them and their agenda for what it is. At the very least they are committing a violation of our civil rights, at worst treason against us.

By laughing at them we conveniently allow ourselves to ignore their transgressions against us and our rights.

Push Back America !!

I took the liberty of re-writing a portion of the article:

"Some police agencies in Utah don’t want black people in their communities, and they are relying on the disorderly conduct statute to circumvent Utah’s racial integration policy, according to Ray. The Clearfield Republican told the House as much when his bill was debated on the floor."

Also, this scumbag said "most Utahns" are with him? Really? "Most" is actually a real term with a real meaning behind it. You know, verifiable with numbers and all that. Where's the proof, you goddamn human rights violating pig?

Swap the T-shirt and jeans for a blue uniform with shiny badge, and nary a fleeting thought will occur regarding the same publicly carried weapon.

Speaks volumes as to their empty-headed, spoon-fed philosophy of life and their perceived place in it.

Hiding under the porch you'll find them when the shooting starts.

Not to fret; they'll soon be along as they cautiously emerge from their hidey holes afterwards- unwitting beneficiaries once again to the shower of goodies obliquely secured as spoils by the actions of the few.

Kansas has had open carry since 1873. We don't seem to have any problems! When the hysterics broke out during the "Concealed Carry" debate, it was great fun to say; "Oh! then you fully support our current open carry law!" the reactions were priceless!!

Open Carry was completely unrestricted here in Washington State since it was part of the Oregon Territory. It was only with the passage of the concealed permission slip laws in 1933 that there was any attempt to control carry here.

Today the only restriction on OC is an unconstitutional requirement for a CPL to carry loaded in your vehicle. Of course the Few have worked hard to destroy this and any 2A Right here but they have so far failed.

I OC most of the time and the only issues i Have had was with an overenthusiastic peace officer. We got that sorted out and there is a small but growing OC community here in Central Washington.

When they succeed in passing unconstitutional laws further restricting carry I have no intention of obeying.

"Unjust laws exist; shall we be content to obey them, or shall we endeavor to amend them, and obey them until we have succeeded, or shall we transgress them at once? Men generally, under such a government as this, think that they ought to wait until they have persuaded the majority to alter them. They think that, if they should resist, the remedy would be worse than the evil. But it is the fault of the government itself that the remedy is worse than the evil. It makes it worse. Why is it not more apt to anticipate and provide for reform? Why does it not cherish its wise minority? Why does it cry and resist before it is hurt? Why does it not encourage its citizens to be on the alert to point out its faults, and do better than it would have them? Why does it always crucify Christ, and excommunicate Copernicus (2) and Luther,(3) and pronounce Washington and Franklin rebels?" HD Thoreau

There's nothing new under the sun. Even in Utah.
