I don't get it, Mike. 'Securing the border' may result in Mexicans being unable to do some things, but it WILL result in YOU being unable to do MANY things you presently enjoy doing.
Things like: going for a Sunday drive without having to spend time at BP/ICE checkpoints proving who you are; buying food, clothing and shelter without a gov't-issued biometric ID card... I could go on.
The way to avoid having OUR freedoms curtailed in the name of 'securing the border' is to solve the underlying problem(s) rather than merely painting over the symptoms: end the War On Drugs, and end the welfare system.
Uh, Rexhead - unless we are going to Mexico to buy clothes, eat or whatever, why would we need border checkpoint ID? And we already have to do that going to and from Canada. So...
Ending the War on Drugs and the Welfare System would be a very good START on securing the border. But We would still have to stop employers from hiring undocumented workers,Require U.S.Identification (you already have a drivers lic. don´t you so there is no need for any biometric I.D.)to make international money transfers. And still we have to Secure the border physically. Because people will still want to be comming here, things are that bad in Mexico and OTHER Central and South American countries. And that is not even including Real Terrorists comming from any other part of the world,Somolia just to name one.So securing the border does not mean that the Goberment has to Infringe upon the righs of anybody.I know that this won´t happen because the Goberment only wants control and more control.....
Simple solution: 1-Let the affected states (AZ, NM, TX) post a no-fee, no-license, no-limit bounty for anyone crossing north-bound over the US-Mexican border. Bonus bounty for drugs. 2-Post signs in English and Spanish/Mexican just north (50 yards?) of the US-Mexican border, about every 1/4 to 1/2 mile. 3-Release the hounds of war -- I mean hunters -- I mean patriots. Let the fun begin.
As a favorite website I read often declaims, "Why must I do all the heavy lifting?"

Maybe Senator John Cornyn will save us! Ban those disposable cell phones! That'll teach them Zetas!
Yeah, pretty much what everyone else said.

The question is, "Why don't they close the border?".
The answer is: Because, this INVASION of our country IS National Policy!
