The end of an era.

I don't recall where I read it, but I do remember that Birmingham turned out more steel during World War II for the defense effort than Pittsburgh. All the more reason to note with sadness this milestone: "U.S. Steel to permanently shutter Fairfield blast furnace."

Would they be closing down if projects like the Keystone pipeline was to go a head?

1,900 American jobs lost permanently overseas to "portfolio optimization", business weasel words. What jerks. Now, the South is losing jobs. What next?
