Former Neo-Con Michael Lind doesn't like the South.

Michael Lind, former NeoCon, doesn't like his native South. No, not one little bit.
"We’d be less violent, more mobile and in general more normal if not for Dixie."

I would be fine with leaving the Union. As long as the pants wetting pc crowd will go north.

Tom Woods delivered an epic crackdown to this clown. Lind was afraid to respond or engage after being destroyed a couple years ago by Woods. Highly entertaining links below:

Military cemeteries nationwide, including Arlington, are largely populated with dead hero red-necks. Discount Dixie, and you'll never win another world war because it's our beloved red-necks who make them most awesome and fearless fighters. Keep that in mind, liberals! You start another civil war with red blooded Americans and red-necks from the south will kick your candy asses.

Long live Dixie! The South will rise again!

this week I saw the largest confederate flag on the back of a pick-up I've ever seen - it was on a road near Lake George NY! Upstate NY is becoming more like Dixie than Dixie...

I don't understand the comment regarding the South and "mobility".
I'm from the rural midwest. People are less mobile there, than elsewhere, yet it is not 'Southern', at all.

Overall, Pundster punditry, aka, another load of crap.

I'm a transplant to Alabama from -- originally -- the socialist republic of New York State, via Pennsylvania. In nearly 30 years here, I've found more than a few
'escapees' from the South who hate their roots and don't mind ranting about it from the roof tops to their current 'masters'. Cases in point: Dan Rather(from Texas), Howell Raines(from Birmingham) -- once-upon-a-time media darlings who screwed the pooch while trying to show how they'd 'evolved' from their raisin'. This guy is another such.

My own take on the question is simply this: slavery and race issues aside -- the South remaining in the Union may be the only thing that's kept this nation from going socialist a helluva lot sooner.

So, this dude thinks things would be better in America if our communities were more like Detroit? Or Chicago? Baltimore, maybe?

Factor out the crime and poverty in some core urban zones, and the south's a mostly fine place to live and raise a family, without the guilt-trips or tax rates that "progressives" impose on northern or some of the western regions.

I was waiting for him to get around to floor-a-duh. Dade county is a latin american country of its own. The rest of the state is 75% nu joisey and nu yawkers. Then there's the half backs of north carolina who were nu yawkers that moved to floor-a-duh then moved half way back to nu yawk. As for his thoughts on gun violence, I like to see him explain Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore, Boston or NY NY. I guess he's just another self hating white guy. Sucks to be him.

It never occurs to these people that they can move to england, europe, canada, aus. or N.Z.. Seriously I would help them pack, for free. And the only reason europe has a greater upward mobility is because of all the muslims who live in the 7th century then move to europe so of course there's upward mobility when a person enters the 21st century.

Bugs Bunny had the perfect comment for this character: "Whatta Maroon"

Actually, this guy Lind has it backwards.
Without the North, (or in other words, the "Blue" states of the East, West, and Rust belt) America would be much much better off. Better off financially, without wacky social programs that give Billions in schooling, healthcare, education, and housing to illegal aliens, better off morally without gay marriage and perverted parents with sexually flexibly identified children who aren't even old enough yet to be thinking about sex, better off spiritually with prayer and the Ten Commandments back in the schools, better off productively with high school graduates actually knowing how to read, write, and do math rather than just "knowing" about global warming and how to use a condom and how homosexuality is just an alternative lifestyle. Better off with more security, with real, tangible borders that only let in legal visitors and legal immigrants. And more secure in their homes and persons because more of the population can be legally armed and able to protect themselves and their families.
Yes, we would be MUCH better off without the "North".

Makes sense - an awful lot of Yankees have resettled in the South, thereby killing a lot of what the South was. But hey, they're giving us high taxes and statism in exchange....

Oh, wait.

The entire piece can be summed up as, "The United States would be a lot more boring if we didn't have the South."

Face it: No matter what we do, people like Michael Lind are going to hate us and call us racist. "Racist" was an attack word invented for political purposes early in the 20th century, and that's all it is now. Might as well wear it with pride, right next to "redneck", "gun nut", "fundamentalist", and the rest.

Anonymous- got it right about half-backs in North Carolina. LOL !! They're from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island and
a few other Northern States. They sold out where they were and went to Florida. Found out it gets too hot, humid and buggy there, and flocked up here to what used to be a great place to live. We commonly refer to them as Floridiots, outsiders or
just plain assholes, and wish the hell they'd kept on going back to where they came from. They try to change things to make them like they are where they came from, and get offended when people here tell them off. If where you came from is so damn good, why the hell aren't you still there ??? We sure as hell didn't invite you to move here !!
