Looks like we need an "I Will Not Comply" armed civil disobedience action right here in Alabama.

Courtesy of David Codrea we have this link:
Alabama Department of Transportation bans firearms at rest stops. Is it legal?
"When we label a gun-free zone, we actually create a killing field for those people who obviously aren’t going to follow a law like that.”

The quote is absolutely right about 'creating a killing field'. Damn if some people
aren't so stupid they refuse to learn from multiple examples that continue proving
this time and time again !!

O.K., so you can't enter a highway rest area even if you're legally carrying your gun in accordance with State Law. Well, I guess if you have to take a leak or a crap, you'll just have to pull over on the shoulder of the road 'outside' a Rest Area and answer natures call !! Make sure you have your own ass wipe with you and
deposit it in the nearest trash barrel when you see one.

Screw the Alabama Department of Transportation!!!!

I ignore these signs as I carry concealed.
As A lawyer, my analysis is that the statues DO NOT Apply to DOT making up their own rules on this.

As an AL lawyer, I see nothing in our statutes that allows ALDOT to do this.
As a concealed carrier, I ignore these signs.

We finally got those repealed at GA rest stops.

Whomever was involved in this needs to be fired. Period.

This is a creation JUST FOR YOU, Mike. I truly believe that. It is BAIT, so be careful. Apply for NO PERMIT to assemble. Do not play their game on their terms (ever changing rules. Make them establish boundary and then plot the hunt to capture your prey! You know this, obviously, but my point is this. When I say this was done FOR you, I mean it this way. This is meant to set you up, in your own state, to make a mistake. They want nothing more than for you to make a mistake. They underestimate you, because they ALWAYS think all of us will stand down in fear if they squeeze enough (sadly most do bow before all is said and done).

So Bide your time. Consider dutifully. And remember what you tell us, over and over. THEY must shoot first. They shot by saying they are doing this. You shoot back by warning them against it, that they are infringing and abridging. Let them shoot first after doing so! Again. Hold the line on First Principals! Do not take the bait! Bait them instead. They will make the mistake......they always do when we are patient enough to force THEIR hand into firing first. Obviously I speak of the war of words here, rather than shooting firarms, but I guess nowadays ya have to be THAT specific.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if this shot across the bow is meant to coincide with other gun control initiatives....as a way to keep you ummm in-state.

The question I would like to know is what is the Governor of the state doing about this? People should be hammering him right now to fire all those who delivered this fine piece of cowpie. The buck stops on his desk. Even the state Attorney General should be getting calls about this. All the gun groups and freedom loving groups should be on this and reminding those political beings a price will be paid for not correcting this right this very minute.

Most likely some overzealous staffer is responsible for (or will be blamed for) this overreach.

I'd like to call this kind of PR fiasco "The Wounded Warrior Project Screw-up Syndrome."

Somebody in PR will get it sorted out. Kinda like a large well known Telecom based in Atlanta (before being purchased by certain Sith Lords based in San Antonio) who "accidently" blocked access to the NRA website from their corporate web as "harmful, pornographic, or not consistent with corporate values.

Corporations based in the South don't do well if they look "anti gun".

From a strictly practical point of view, WTF are suppose to do? Pull to the shoulder, lay your $1000 firearm on the ground, pee at the rest stop, then loop and backtrack hoping your sidearm is still there?

Yeh. I think a caravan of 100 cars, all hauling concealed and open carriers, should pull in to the rest stop at the same time. Somebody report firearms at the rest stop, then stand around and wait till the LEOs show up, then everybody calmly get back in their cars and leave.

By the way, who did those Alabama boys elect anyway?

Notice it's a "rule", not a "law". Screw administrative "rules" and "policies", show me the law..And Alabama gasoline tax (an excise tax) is supposed to pay for roads. And they're claiming that the same paying individual of that tax, using the road, is considered a "trespasser"? .. 2+2=5? ..

If you carry concealed and keep your mouth shut -- No Harm No Foul.

Unless some ne'er do well gives you the opportunity to participate in a "hero moment".

Then the "better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6" rule comes into effect.

Actually what is needed is an armed civil disobedience movement NATIONWIDE.

I also will go on public record saying I have ignored the signs. Mike, if you need pictures of the "no guns" signs, I have pix of the signs at the entrances of Rest Areas on I-85.

Looks like you and Tyler Truitt will be busy defending basic human rights in Alabama.

sounds like the rest stops need the new Gun-Free Kill Zone decals, complete with the Sipsey Street Irregulars plug at the bottom.

In Texas, if it's public and there is no 30.06 sign, plus no 30.07 after Jan 2016, and it ain't a bar, there is no firearm prohibition. But then, that's Texas. A whole other country.

When I'm carrying concealed, and I see a "Gun Free Killing Zone" sign, like REALLY I'm going to stop and tell TPTB. . . .
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Just "carry" on carrying on. ANd keep it concealed unless absolutely necessary.

LOL, like Texas is a model for gun rights. Pass constitutional carry....or better yet, have your Texas brethren start civil disobedience by carrying without a permit AND wherever you please and then you can talk about how "free" you are on this issue.

Anon 1:56PM,

If you are forced into a "hero moment", if at all possible (i.e., are there witnesses?), it would be better to participate in 3 of the 4 "Esses",
1-Suppress(or)
2-Shoot
3-Shovel
4-Silence (just drive away, say nothing to no one)
