A few dead at Gettysburg, 1863.
Yesterday I wrote in Regarding Rumors, "Alarums and Excursions." Sit tight and we'll see what actually happens before reacting seriously. --
There are many rumors floating around about what's coming from the administration and its Nazgul, within and without Mordor on the Potomac. Executive orders of bans on importation of "assault weapons," parts and ammunition are rumored. . . The administration, it is said, is panicked by the rush to buy arms and ammunition.
Late last night, I received this from another source in DC, under the heading of "some chatter today":
Word is Obama is going to ban AW/shotgun imports, all ammo and all parts sets by Executive Order tomorrow. It makes sense, and would play to his core. It will also guarantee one helluva fight on the domestic front, stupidly, at a time when Obama and his retinue ought to be focused on dealing with the economic mess. And it is going to divide the living shit out of the country like nothing else---civil war type divisions.
Whether this is disinformation floated by the administration to elicit a response remains to be seen. As I wrote yesterday:
While I have no doubt that the Schumers of the world are panicked, it behooves us to await more details and further events before WE panic into "alarums and excursions." This doesn't mean that we should quit making preparations, on the contrary. It doesn't mean that we shouldn't engage in political struggle against the tide. But the wise man waits and watches without panic until action is required.
Senator Rand Paul, it seems, may be hearing the same rumors:
The Obama administration has suggested using an executive order to bypass Congress if it can't get the gun control measures it wants.Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told CBN News that members of Congress are prepared to fight such an order."I'm against having a king," Paul said. "I think having a monarch is what we fought the American Revolution over and someone who wants to bypass the Constitution, bypass Congress -- that's someone who wants to act like a king or a monarch.""I've been opposed to executive orders, even with Republican presidents. But one that wants to infringe on the Second Amendment, we will fight tooth and nail," he continued."And I promise you, there'll be no rock left unturned as far as trying to stop him from usurping the Constitution, running roughshod over Congress," he vowed. "And you will see one heck of a debate if he decides to try to do this."
Debate will be the least of the regime's worries if they force us, like John Hancock, to be international smugglers again. Still, let us await events keep our wits about us and our powder dry.
LATER: Mother Jones includes import bans in its list of "14 Ways Obama Can Push Gun Control Without Congress."You may recall that Clinton cut us off from the inexpensive Chinese ammunition sources after we scared him with the unintended consequences of the 1994 Brady and AWB acts, on 26 May 1994. The "legal authority" of the decision was the Arms Export Control Act of 1976.
