Holder waffles under oath & new Grassley-Issa letter slams DOJ's "false statements." ATF agents jeer at Holder weasel testimony.
(Holder to self: "I want my woobie.")
Eric Holder: “You have to understand the way in which the department operates. . . This has gotten a great deal of publicity.”
Darrell Issa: “There are dead Americans as a result of this of this failed and reckless program, so I would say it hasn’t gotten enough attention, has it Mr. Attorney General?” -- Testimony in front of the House Judiciary Committee today.
Appearing today before the House Judiciary Committee, Attorney General Eric Holder got grilled about the "gunwalker" controversy in which the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is accused of allowing guns to get into the hands of criminals in Mexico. (Scroll down to watch video of Holder's testimony)
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) used asked Holder when first knew about the controversial Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) operation known as "Fast and Furious." Though documents indicate Fast and Furious was started in 2009, Holder told Congress he only learned of it a "few weeks" ago.
That's after a CBS News investigation into allegations about Fast and Furious and other gun trafficking cases. Issa also asked who at the Department of Justice, if not Holder, approved Fast and Furious. Holder stated that he didn't know, but that investigations are underway to find that out.
The Department of Justice and ATF are under investigation by Congress and the Inspector General after numerous insiders say ATF pursued a strategy that allowed thousands of assault rifles and other weapons to cross the border into Mexico, where it was allegedly known they were being put into the hands of drug cartels. Holder reiterated such a strategy would be against Department policy. Investigators are looking into possible ties between those weapons and the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, Customs Agent Jaime Zapata, and an unknown number of Mexicans.

I went to the committee website at 0920 local and selected the link but while the video feed came up, I could get no audio, so I gave up.
I had the baby fed, a fresh diaper on him and he was snoozing in my arms AND I COULDN'T GET ANY AUDIO!
Damn it!
Couldn't tell it from the tiny frame of the video, was that SOB Holder sweating? Was he? I loved the way he tried to talk over Issa. I also noticed that he never really agreed to comply with the subpoena. He kinda-sorta did but I suspect from a lawyer's perspective, he never agreed to comply.
I watched today's action ... it was great watching that cockroach Holder trying to dig his way out of a very bad session with Issa. I was wishing he had about 10 more minutes to make him squirm in his chair. Not a good day for our murder cover-up errand boy from the good ol Janet Reno DOJ ... ahhhh those were the good days in DOJ .....
"...do all we can to protect law-enforcement officers..."
You lying, putrid, vile sack of venomous shite!
Were you "doing all you can" when you hid this from everyone on the ground in Mexico including your own agents?
Were you "doing all you can" when you blocked them from any access to any info about any of the "gunwalker" guns?
Though I think there's a pretty good chance most of those guys will end up being "opfor" some day, I still believe that CURRENTLY *THEY* believe they're doing their part to protect all of US.
That vermin such as Holder can callously put their lives at risk, then act all offended when someone calls him on it makes me want to go kill something.
If there's a hell, I hope G*d's already marked out Larry's spot in the hottest depths thereof...
For Dedicated_Dad: Yeah, but "Law Enforcement" will STILL dishonor their oath of office and instead bow and scrape before their Masters and then do WHATEVER they are told.
Have I simply missed it, or has the FBI taken the opportunity to do a silent fade on their "investigation" into BA Terry's murder? Still no comment from them on the suspects involved, a weapon match, etc.?
Do they wish to remain silent, or is this at Holder's orders?
A good summary of the grilling over at Hot Air ( http://hotair.com/archives/2011/05/04/holder-grilled-on-project-gunrunner/ ) , including this telling exchange:
ISSA: How about the head of the Criminal Division, Lanny Breuer. Did he authorize it?
HOLDER: I’m not sure whether Mr. Breuer authorized it. You have to understand the way in which the Department operates. Although there are operations, this one has become — has gotten a great deal of publicity.
ISSA: Yeah, there are dead Americans as a result of this failed and reckless program. So I would say that it hasn’t gotten enough attention, has it, Mr. Attorney General?
Have to wonder - what other reckless programs were perpetuated against the citizens?

"...it has become clear that we cannot rely on the Department’s self-serving statements to obtain any realistic picture of what happened..."
Wow.
And it only took him what -- 3 months -- to figure this out?
And people say congress-critters are stupid...
Do senate committees have time limits like the house? If they don't then Holder is in for it big time.
I made the mistake of watching the vid...

The stench is STILL overwhelming.

I guess it depends on what your definition of 'recent' is.
Does 'recent weeks' mean a couple of weeks ago, the past month, or the past year?
I think a professional weasel is just using words that are meant to give a specific impression but technically have no real meaning.
And did LaPierre really call him 'Erica'?
