GOA sends out alert on Lynch nomination.
Received an email alert from GOA which includes this:
Lynch's nomination is particularly pivotal because she is viewed as being groomed to be the fifth anti-gun vote on the U.S. Supreme Court, replacing either Anthony Kennedy or Antonin Scalia.
Of course, if Lynch were to be confirmed to the court -- riding on the wings of her AG confirmation -- both Heller and McDonald would be overturned. The Second Amendment, as far as the courts are concerned, would be a nullity.
So what's the status? Contrary to the press's expectations, Lynch's vote count in the Senate is still stuck at 50/50. Right now, there are almost ten Senators who are either on the fence, or are in favor of Lynch (when they should be opposing Lynch).
Here is that target list of Senators who could use extra prodding:
Jeff Flake (R-AZ)
Michael Bennet (D-CO)
Mark Kirk (R-IL)
Susan Collins (R-ME)
Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND)
Dean Heller (R-NV)
Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
Joe Manchin (D-WV)

Orrin is a centerist-left RINO, and should have followed his own campaign promise and retired years (decades) ago. No hope there.

Forget about Mark Kirk. Look up RINO in the dictionary and you'll find his picture. Now that Duckworth has announced her intentions to run for his seat, he has gone far to the left, where his personality really resides.
Kirk has already said he'll vote to Lynch America.
Mark Kirk is the guy who introduced a semi automatic rifle ban and then turned around and said we should pay taxes to pay for fully automatic rifles for Libyan Muslims. It was hilarious watching the NRAs lobbyist advocate his election and even admit voting for Kirk!
Lynch is just a a female holder - we all know that- but Heller and McDonald aren't going anywhere. Is she dangerous? Of course! Is she a crook? You betcha. Does SCOTUS admit something as huge as Heller and McDonald and turn around a couple years later and reverse the reversal? Not hardly.
GOA is jumping the shark here. Obama won't get another SCOTUS nominee. That will be replacing Ginsburg during the next administration anyway.
The "balance" of the court is indeed in "trouble" but the danger isn't tilting left, it's going to tilt the other way as the next president replaces both Ginsburg AND Kennedy. Psssst it ain't gonna be Hillary doing so....
Gao makes a mistake here imho... There's plenty of reason to oppose lynch and snap about her nomination and even the republican capitulation to it - there's no need to embellish regarding SCOTUS.
Why mention Kirk and Collins?
Might as well be urging us to plead our case to Feinstein and Schumer.
You can't vote your way out of this problem.
