More on the Digital Stasi. FBI pressures Internet providers to install surveillance software

CNET has learned the FBI has developed custom "port reader" software to intercept Internet metadata in real time. And, in some cases, it wants to force Internet providers to use the software.

This is such a waste of time and resources. With the FBI controlling all domestic terrorism, their assets should be focused on foreign competition. The only thing I can think of that this new surveillance software would be useful, would be to identify targets of opportunity and help develop scenarios fitting those targets. After all, some of their latest false flags were a little thin in the covert department.

The ISPs will roll over of course. TOR and VPN will become even more popular. Pretty soon the only thing ISPs will ever see is completely encrypted data going through their servers, all to offshore VPN servers. I like ibvpn.com, cheap ($5 a month) and good.

I'm surprised it hasn't happened already
