From my friend John Russell at IRN News.

Mr. Russell seems to dismiss the fact that the "conservative Christians" are often times just as big a statist (complete with their lust for more and bigger government and its subsequent power) as those leftist "communists".

After all...aren't these same conservatives the ones that overwhelmingly voted for the Patriot Act, want to control what you put in and how you use your body, tell you who you can marry, are fine with DUI check points, immigration checkpoints 100 miles from the border, TSA searches to "keep them safe" from those evil muslims, etc., etc. ad infinitum, ad nauseum?

Sadly, the "right" is barely distinguishable from the left. No one seems to be interested in individual freedom....just more state power...as long as that power is used in a way they approve of.

I keep telling my wife that this isn't left vs. right anymore....it's statists vs. individualists.

If you could reason with religious people, there would be no religious people.

- Dr. Gregory House

Religion has contributed to more atrocities than anything else in the history of mankind. Religion is simply a replacement for ancient superstitions with a different kind of superstition. It could also be said to be a fairy tale created by and perpetrated by those who would seek to enrich themselves and gain power over others through fraud and coercion.

Sorry Old Greybeard, but you're wrong. The body count of collectivism in all its forms has religion beat out by a crapton, as they say in Blount County. A good, long crapton.

Good to hear from John, he has been silent for a good long while. Although I would guess not in person. Johns insights into the problem is as usual spot on and in a form not usually thought of in every day casual conversing.

Thanks John and well wishes to you and yours.
