Grassroots rebellion in ATF ranks grows at CUATF as HQ tries to ratchet down on the coverup. Whistleblower Rene Jaquez provides Calderon interview.

Rene Jaquez.

Big doins' over at CleanUpATF.org. As David Codrea reports, "ATF employees given directive for congressional inquiry/subpoena responses."

"A message has been sent out to all ATF employees on the agency intraweb with the title 'New Document Production Directive For Material Responsive To Congressional Inquiries and Subpoenas Concerning the Project Gunrunner Initative and Operation Fast And Furious'," writes a comment poster on CleanUpATF.org forums. CleanUpATF is the "dissident" website where ATF employee accusations about Bureau management waste, abuse, corruption and fraud first brought "Project Gunwalker"* allegations to the attention of Mike Vanderboegh of Sipsey Street Irregulars and Gun Rights Examiner--allegations that resulted in our bringing Senate and House staffers into contact with whistleblowers and drawing the attention of some in "mainstream media."

Employees are directed to certify they have produced all the relevant information they have, or to indicate if they have none, and are cautioned "failure to produce responsive information could result in disciplinary action."

I'll try to have a complete copy of the memo posted on SSI tomorrow. The outrage of the ATF employees who received this memo in the middle of the biggest coverup in agency history (coverups are only for high-level managers, of course) is understandable. The whole point of the exercise is to find out what their employees know about their managers' derelictions of duty with a view to deflecting blame away from those same managers.

Meanwhile, Rene Jaquez provides us with a translation of an interview with Mexican President Felipe Calderon on Univision. Calderon blames the expiration of the AWB for all his troubles but denies prior knowledge of gunwalking:

UNIVISION NEWS TRANSCRIPT

Program: Al Punto

Content: Interview with Felipe Calderon, President of Mexico

Air Date: May 15, 2011
Key
PSC: Pamela Silva Conde
FC: President Felipe Calderon

PSC: Speaking of those bilateral relations, in your last interview with Univision, you said and I quote, “if there wasn't a flow of U.S. weapons to criminals in Mexico, we wouldn't have the death rate we have.” Do you blame the U.S. for the most part for those deaths in Mexico?

FC: I insist that it is a crucial factor. Look, it is clear that after the Assault Weapons Ban, the law banning the sale of assault weapons in the United States, which expired in 2004, the spiral of violence in Mexico began in 2005. In the four years I have been president of Mexico, we have already confiscated or seized more than 100,000 weapons.

PSC: PRESIDENT OBAMA TOLD US IN AN UNIVISION INTERVIEW THAT HE DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THE “FAST AND FURIOUS” OPERATION, AND THAT YOU ALSO DID NOT KNOW. WHEN DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THIS OPERATION AND IS THERE ALREADY A COUNT OF MEXICAN DEATHS DUE TO “FAST AND FURIOUS”?

FC: Basically I heard about it through the media when this subject started to surface with statements by some members of the ATF. Obviously it is an issue of great concern. This operation has to be investigated in its entirety, but certainly we are unaffiliated with the operation itself. One of those weapons was the one that killed officer Zapata, an American agent in Mexico. So the “would have” does not exist in this case. The fact is that we did not know; what I will continue to support are the actions, within the law and respect that we owe each other as countries, that American agencies take to stop the criminal flow of arms into Mexico. Look I will tell you the truth. In my view the sale of arms is fundamentally a matter of economic interest for those who manufacture and sell guns in the United States. And this interest cannot be put above the lives of thousands of people who are dying due to that indiscriminate flow.

PSC: AND PRECISELY, IS IT TRUE THAT MEXICO HAS HIRED NORTH-AMERICAN LAWYERS TO ANALYZE THE POSSIBILITY OF FILING LAWSUITS AGAINST U.S. FIREARMS MANUFACTURERS AND DEALERS? AT WHAT STAGE IS THIS PROCESS?

FC: It is true. We are exploring the possibility of legal action because don’t have other options. We have sometimes “shouted in the desert,” as the Scripture says, for this nonsense to stop. In other words, those thousands of guns sold is pure business that is killing people. So, yes, we are exploring the legal avenues by which we can stop this.

As an old conspiracist from way back I have reaffirmed my belief that the mexican mutt Calderone has been compliciit with the present marxist administration from the Gunwalker inception, that its creation is the work of one or more czars and that we should be looking at Canada as well. These treasonous NGB's never make just one play.. from what I've seen there are at least 4 or 5 diversions for each accomplishment and they usually have several possibilities in the fire at any given time where any of them could squeak through.
Thanks for your efforts Mike.

Leaders south of the border have a favorite crutch of blaming problems on "el norte" rather than fixing them. They do it because it works. It works because their people let them get away with it. It did not begin with Calderon of Mexico or Chavez of Venezuela or Morales of Bolivia. Note the following quote attributed to Mexican President Porfirio Diaz who served 3 terms spanning 1876 - 1911.

"¡Pobre México! ¡Tan lejos de Dios y tan cerca de los Estados Unidos!" (Poor Mexico, so far from God and so close to the United States!)

I believe Spitnyri's intuition is correct. Here's my take.
Obama, Holder, Clinton, and the others in this administration have spent their political lives exploiting the interplay between the courts, public policy, and legislation. Using leftist inspired legislation making court cases easier for them, leftists use court cases to advance agendas that the public would never accept. Examples include so called "redlining suits" against banks to force the banks into making sub prime home loans (Obama's only court case was as a signatory to one such suit), affirmative action cases, and in the environmental area, new EPA rules are designed to make suits so easy as to practically shut down any politically uncooperative business.
Calderone, in my opinion, has been told by the administration how to proceed with the proposed lawsuit against U.S. gun manufacturers. From the law firm to hire to the venue for the case. Meanwhile, the administration is doing what it can through administrative agency rulemaking and court appointments to make a case easier to win. But the case needed something else. Evidence. Evidence such as dead Mexican bodies. Hence a policy of facilitating the transfer of weapons they knew would create that evidence.
Obama's political supporters have been angry with him for not getting aggressive with gun legislation. Obama has assured then something was in the works that is "indirect." (Sorry, not citing stories - but this is the recent one about a conversation with Brady gun people and Obama).
So there it all is. The Obama Administration coordinates rulemaking, legislation, evidence and the court to help a successful suit by Mexico against U.S. manufacturers and it accomplishes what it cannot do legislatively.
Is this evil? Yes, 100%. Are they really that manipulative and despicable? Yes. Their motto is "By any means necessary."

Trialdog's speculation is certainly
intriguing. Now if he could only learn how to indent a paragraph... ;^)

Was it used to promote an anti-gun agenda? Yes.

Was the Obama admin complicit in getting the nutcase to start shooting? Absolutely not!
