Anecdotes of a collapsing civilization. . .

“A jail sentence doesn’t matter anymore. The only thing that gets you shunned in New York society is poverty.”

Despite the pedophile mogul's conviction for soliciting underage prostitution, his circle—a who's who of the rich and powerful, from Bill Clinton to Katie Couric—is standing by their man. Renowned scientists whose research Epstein funded also back the billionaire, writes Alexandra Wolfe.

“New York friends are suddenly hesitant to talk about Maxwell. "She's a high-end 'fixer'," and so what? they ask. "No one in café society gives a damn that a 15-year-old girl gives massages," says one frequent charity-benefit guest.”

Not at all like the aristocrats treated the surfs.

A massage that is all, sure it is. That conviction has no relevance. He could not afford a good lawyer.

Ever wonder why Muslims want to get rid of New York, New York?
I’ll give you a hint it’s not the architecture.

I would prefer to know how underage girls got to be prostitutes in the first place...

I am one person in"flyover country" who has a huge disconnect with these folks. When Achmed sails his freighter loaded with a thermonuclear device up the Hudson and detonates it, I won't lose a minute of sleep. I only hope Evita Rodham and Schumer are close to ground zero. What can you say about a state and a culture which condones such behavior. Maybe New Yawk would be more civilized under Sharia Law. At least Epstein would be beheaded and Couric would be in a Burqa.

Just goes to show that in this country we really do have the best justice system money can buy. Personally I'm surprised he got any jail time at all. I hope he paid for his lawyer to be castrated and fed his balls in a bowl of chowder. The man didn't earn his pay at all.

Remember the "Golden Rule" boys and girls. No, not the one that begins "Do unto others" but the REAL golden rule. "The man with the gold MAKES the rules."

Always HAS BEEN that way, always WILL BE that way.

John,
Where there is sufficient demand, and the price they are willing to pay is right, someone will provide a supply.

I don't blame the prostitute, but I certainly blame her clients.

Prostitution is the oldest profession, Far older than our species of Homo Sapiens. Even Bonobos* ("pygmy chimps") trade sex for food and vice-versa.

I was listening to some prostitutes being interviewed on the local radio a few days back, the rough ones were heroin addicts and one claimed that her mother (also an addict) had put her to work when she was about 9 years old. I guess they have to work extra hard to pay the inflated prohibition prices. Again a demand will prompt someone to produce a supply - for the right price, of course.

*The people who researched Bonobos were hippies, naturally they found "peace and free love..." Similarly the bloke who has done most work on West African chimps is Communist, so no surprise he found "collective action".The politics of a researcher are possibly the most important thing to look at.
