The Mossberg 500 Cruiser.
Update on the Mossberg Contretemps:
I just got off the cell phone with Joseph Bartozzi, General Counsel of Mossberg. He says flatly that since the Cruiser has been manufactured for twenty-plus years, there is no computer data base that is easily printed out to give a serial number of produced Cruisers.
HOWEVER, he did say that if anyone has a Mossberg 500 and wishes to know whether or not that individual firearm was produced as a Cruiser, simply contact the factory by letter, email or fax and they will gladly give you that information.

I have a Winchester 1300 Defender that came, in the box, with the pistol grip attached. Thats why I bought that model. Where does that leave me? Is it only that particular model and brand?

Can't help but notice that the CUATF post you referenced talks about a "persuader" and YOU talk about a "cruiser."
Does it matter?
One more point - if all this is correct, and PG SGs are essentially "pistols" then you would REALLY land yourself in a world of hurt by installing a stock.
Now I have to ask "what about the kits that come with the PG installed and a stock in the box? I used to have a Mossy (500 IIRC) kit that came with 26" and 18.5" bbls and PG and SS. How in the hell can THAT be legal?
Remember: "Once a pistol always a pistol/once a ... etc.
This is a MESS!
Having never fired a pistol-grip 12ga, I just have to ask....
How long does your hand hurt?
With our present state of affairs my paranoia kicks in quite easily.. Now watch this turn into a UnLicnesed Handgun issue in those states requiring such.. what a can of worms this could be..
Here's the b!tch - some models (such as the 50411) come from the factory with a stock AND a pistol grip kit - they're still officially Cruisers...
Is I is or is I ain't a pistol, baby?
Unless you happen to have the water-proof container marked M500Cruiser!
