Logistics & Smuggling: Never forget the thrift stores.
You can never predict what your local thrift store might come up with. Monday morning I went to the local one here in Pinson. If you get there before 10 AM, you get an additional 25% off. Lo, and behold, what should they have in the display case but two brand spanking new D&H Industries 30-round AR mags. Taped together, they were marked "$9.95." Less the discount, I ended up with two freedom-fighter grade mags, suitable for smuggling for the lordly price of $3.75 each, plus tax!
They even already have the MagPul anti-tilt followers (on all the serviceable freedom fighter grades, we replace the GI followers with MagPuls -- it adds to the cost, but there is no point in smuggling mags that might let somebody behind enemy lines down at a critical moment).
As donations of freedom-fighter grades have fallen off recently, these will be included in my next shipment to Connecticut rather than distributed to local newbies. (PLEASE don't send any more "politician grades," we have plenty at the moment and we're trying to figure out how to get rid of them in suitable, politician-angering fashion.)
They also had a perfectly serviceable 18" blade machete in the same case marked $1.99. With the early bird discount that was a buck and half. That will go to a local newbie for cabbage chopping and walking-dead-dispatching.
Ya gotta love thrift stores.

Granted, I have found some treasures at the various thrift stores around my neighborhood. But nothing of that caliber (pun intended). Heaven must be smiling on you (along with a little Irish good luck).
Happy hunting!

It's a miracle that some statist nanny within the store didn't recognize them and throw them away/call law enforcement for disposal.
I'm unsure what you're talking about when you refer to freedom-fighter grades and"politician grades"- can you explain?
Thanks for the excellent blog.
An idea for excess politician grade mags -
Send them to NRA and SAF operatives along with the message -
You "give" is what appear to be working tools but when push comes to shove they don't work, your permit structures and legislative compromises cost people their lives. So we send you these mags as a message maybe you will understand - they look like tools and they fit into your arms - but when you need them the most and when you count on them in the moment that matters, they fail miserably.

Chicago's Cook (pronounced [kroo k]) County now has banned mail order purchases of standard size magazines. For the moment walk in sales to F.O.I.D. cardholders at locations that have those standard size mags are still legal-subject to further restrictions or changes.
