Gun crowd vows to defy background check law, hears calls for confrontation

"Mike Vanderboegh speaks as opponents of a Washington State law requiring mandatory background checks on all guns sales gather on the grounds of the State Capitol in Olympia. The law, known as Initiative 594, was passed by voters in November. (Joshua Trujillo, seattlepi.com)"
The most fiery speaker was longtime, Alabama-based “patriot” movement leader Mike Vanderboegh. Vanderboegh unloaded on a variety of targets, including the National Rifle Association, the premier group in the gun lobby. He decried the NRA for not putting its resources into the campaign against I-594.
“The NRA did the minimum they could do to convince their members they were doing something,” Vanderboegh stated.
The NRA has begun a backstage campaign to undermine and weaken I-594 when the Legislature convenes in January.
But Vanderboegh argued that more is needed, decrying the background-check initiative as “a violation of natural law and natural rights derived from God.” He drew a big cheer with the line: “Welcome to resistance behind enemy lines.”
“You are the army of the American republic mobilizing against a tyranny our founders told us about,” Vanderboegh cried. A few moments later, he added: “I swear by the great God Jehovah that we will win this fight or die trying.”
. . . Up at the speakers’ stand, Vanderboegh called for non-violence and working through legislative means, but hinted at one recourse still available.
“If they fail, there are always Second Amendment remedies,” he said, adding a moment later, “We will not fire the first shot but if need be we will fire the last.”

Bias much? His crowd size estimate was low, he clearly doesn't know what an assault rifle is, I didn't see any and describing people who just want the Constitution obeyed as 'anti-government' doesn't even begin to make sense.

Also, avoid reading the comments, they'll make you dumber and you won't get that time back.

The Olympia police department is composed of 64 commissioned officers, including Chief Ronnie Roberts, a commander, four lieutenants, eight sergeants and 50 police officers and police recruits. The department also has nearly 29 civilian and limited commissioned employees. "Limited commissioned" employees are jail staff who have some, but not all, of the same authority as police officers.

Like they really wanted to confront an armed crowd ... dealing with run of the mill criminals is a far cry from dealing with determined armed citizens ...

Mike, our gun-hating, Bloombger-backed governor in Virginia will be proposing the BG Checks on all sales here too. Just saying.

The state has now made a minimum of 600,000 armed and formally law abiding citizens in the state angry. These same citizens have lived with abuse and persecution from their supposed betters for most of their lives. Many if not most of them have served their country in a time of need.

Bill Gates and Paul Allen may be able to afford superior protection for their gilded hides but the legislators of the state have no such ability; they live right among us along with all the Sheriffs and LEO’s. They know where we worship, work and live just as we know the same about them.

I love seeing how upset the low IQ Obama supporters are commenting below the newspaper article. The cognitive dissonance is very strong with these people. I will bet they were all cheering on the Ferguson arsonists, the Seattle marxist anarchists who always burn stuff down, and are all clearly cheerleaders for Obama and his spying on every computer and drone striking of American citizens.

And yet this scares them?!?!? As Jeff cooper wrote long ago, politicians aren't opposed to AK or AR rifles in the hands of the public because they care about them being used on each other, but instead because politicians fear them being used against them one day.

My favorite comment had to be the one where the guy called Mike a Nazi and said he was just like Hitler - without realizing he was literally supporting the same gun laws Hitler and the Nazis did! I am sure he was another leftist always going off about the abuse of power of Bush who now cheers on Obama doing it.
