These wonks:"...speaking through gritted teeth" are just throwing out some fluff to satisfy the bloviating Neocon cheerleading squad on Faux News and other "Conservative" venues. The Amerikan military has been on a headlong toboggan ride since the late 70's when it became an all-volunteer force. It was emasculated by collectivist politicians like Patsy Schroeder and others and became a haven for single moms, gays, and other social misfits who found their niche as rear-echelon mother f*****s. I went back in the active reserves in '79 and was shocked at what I saw. Yes, we beat the Iraqis in Desert Storm, but that was then, this is now. The Officer Corps will do whatever Barry tells it to do and roll over and piss themselves. It's like the saying that was drummed into my head at Benning's School for Boys in 1970: COOPERATE AND GRADUATE.
I suppose opinions on this will mirror the number asked for opinion. That said, IMO, it's a leadership thing. Some have it; some don't. I served under several commanders while on active duty. And while I never doubted the patriotism of a one of them, I can tell you that there were a few I would have followed anywhere and a couple I would not have followed across the street. A born patriot is not---necessarily---a born leader. Now our country has Bo-Zo at the wheel, and the experience he brings is that of a "Community Organ-grinder." And he's damned sure making mincemeat of our country. I wish it were simply out of ignorance on his part, but you don't have to connect many dots to understand it's all by design. Again, IMO, he's a POS that needs to be flushed ASAP.
I still fondly remember when the Marine Corps Honor Guard turned their backs on Clinton ... It is usually the Pretorian Guard who has the chance to put the bayonet into the kidneys!
Snopes, Ed, may be telling the truth about that. However, they lurch further Left than even Lurch, and as a result I never take their "word" about anything involving politics or religion. Just like their claim that the tablets on the door of the Supreme Court building refer to the "Ten Amendments" instead of the Ten Commandments.
