Herschel Smith asks "Does De Facto Gun Registration Exist In The U.S.?"

However, what I do doubt is that the ATF is capable of pulling off a comprehensive national gun registry by audit, and without the assistance of the civilian population. While they may see form 4473s during audits, and while some ATF employees may make illegal copies of said forms, or write down information that they shouldn’t, I doubt that they could construct a comprehensive database out of said activities that was anything other than laughable and ridiculous.

Someone needs to keep a sharp eye on the "W" keys this time!

"Laughable and ridiculous," like the NFA registry?

Does anyone think for a moment that the BATFEces would hesitate a moment to use any information they could gather, no matter how laughable or inaccurate? They are perfectly happy to use false, perjured and manufactured "evidence" to persecute anyone they want now. They certainly don't need anything more complete to do that, though I'm sure they would love it.

You guys just figured this out? The BATFE started this OPENLY right after Waco. Sending agents into gun stores to copy the Bound Book every gun seller is required to keep. Old News guys. Old News.---Ray

We find ourselves in the greatest difficulties, when we underestimate our avowed enemies.

They have all but drawn us pictures, of what they intend to do and then we see video of them doing it!

You must ask at this point, "are there any lengths to which they will not go?"

That answer would be, no. There are none. And your children will see worse because that is the way of these things.

As long as private sales continue and proactive registration is not legislated, gathering all of the 4473 data is only a small part of the picture.

ATF has used portable scanners to scan 4473 documents, but they also can take digital photographs. Of greater concern is that ATF has taken complete photographic images of the dealer bound books. Do you think they do this for their health? Do you really think they go to that much effort without entering the data into their databases?

Forget petty concerns about pdf files and software for personal computers. ATF contracts for their own special software to do whatever they want. If you search the internet, you can find ATF solicitations for outside contractors to digitize the dealer out-of-business records. How much was digitized, we may never know – but the contract is out there.

Quite possibly the newly proposed NFA regs will be used to usher in registration.

Prediction - some, or all modern arms will later be re-classified as subject to NFA - heh, no prob, just wander on down to the local sheriff and get your okiedokie. For each firearm which is then registered. Assuming of course you pass muster, and the sheriff will sign off.

Neat, huh?

It makes no sense that an NFA collector group would push for new restrictions, reducing the market for their collections. Must be something else?

You don't think the NSA has recorded all credit card references to firearms, all emails and texts and social media posts, hacked into FFL databases, or hacked into NRA and goa databases?

Over the years it has made little difference to me whether or not our friends know how well we are armed. They already know where i am. what they need to know is when I will pull the trigger.

It Most Definitely Does.
Its not about scanning 4473's or any other thing by the criminals at ATF.. it was done by SCOTUS, the feds and the states in collusion.
When SCOTUS ruled it illegal to create and maintain any form of gun registration for the federal govt or its agencies it left open a door for the feds to do it anyway.. all they had to do was to create one for each state in funding and then make access to the data because they funded it.. remember all the hoopla about inter-agency communication.
Now each state manages the NICS program usually by a state owned police agency, every time you call in for permission they gie them all your info and what you are buying for approval.. its logged and the feds have access to all of it. Havent you ever wondered why the salesmen always walks away while making the phone call ?

Of Course there's a list.. we';re all on it anyway.. when they come to get them go after the ones who sent them first.
