We keep relearning the same lesson - that people object when their country is invaded and occupied by foreigners.

I think y'all need to study the history to determine just how evil this collectivist butcher was.

I can respect him from a strategic and a military standpoint. You don't hold off the American military, for nearly a decade of war by being stupid.

If you do not at least respect your opponent and their abilities, then you've already lost.

That being said... There is a great gulf between the concepts of "respect for..." and "admiration for..."

The former I can have for someone due to their skill set at a particular task, such as military operations,

-- Giap was overruled by his superiors and was basically forced to do the Tet Offensive resulting in massive loss of life for his men who were now out in the open and easy targets for the Americans. Before the Tet Offensive their guerrilla strategies were actually somewhat working and wearing us down. --

The latter is something that I give out far less frequently.

Giap was a heartless butcher of unarmed and innocent men, women, and children, and I won't be shedding any tears for his soul. He has a lot to answer for now that he is face-to-face with The Almighty.

You mean like how G. Washington treated with the seven nations? By ordering the US Army to burn every longhouse , every ear of corn, and every scrap of food, To "kill the women and children if they refuse to run" and "Drive them into the snow to freeze or starve" That kind of evil butcher? Every nation's "hero's" are someone else's murdering bastards. It just depends on the message you allow to be heard.

Try reading his book. He gives total credit for giving the North Vietnamese the will to keep fighting to John F'in Kerry. Said that without Kerry and his band of phonies and traitors they would have given up. But that the activities of Kerry showed the need to hang on because American public opinion was shifting and going against the war. Kerry's potrait hangs in the People's Hall of Hero's in Hanoi in a place of honor. Why Kerry wasn't arrested and tried for Treason I have no idea. He was still an officer in the US Naval Reserve while he was engaged in his anti-American activities.

There is also a need for a clear understanding on just who was defeated in that war.

Here is a hint.

US combat forces were pulled out in 1973.

The South Vietnamese were over ran in 1975.

I agree with Mike. The only reason Giap "won" was because the French were too preoccupied with Algeria at the time, and could not field enough troops. US failed our troops because of the stupid rules of engagement we operated under in that conflict(politicians). Giap treated his troops like cannon fodder and depopulated Vietnam. His treatment of our POWs was abysmal. Vietnam is still not a free country, just an opportunistic one. Like the Chinese, they utilize artificially low wages to sell us clothing and footwear, undercutting American manufacturers. They sell tours of sites where Americans fought and died. At least read Bernard Fall's books before lauding Communist Vietnam and its famous military leaders.

YOUR history?
I left blood and brothers in Vietnam.
While you and yours were protesting US, we bled.
Maybe you've changed a lot.
Maybe not so much.
I really don't care.
I still despise Hanoi Jane.
I haven't changed much.
Just older.

Anon 2:14, I don't give a shit for what happened to the damned Indians, they had it coming for what they did to the whites, in various places. And here's the deal: If some one invades, and you fail to adapt, improvise and over come, tough shit. You lose. That goes for us, as well. Too f-ing bad for the Indians. Their chronic drunk stage, their tendency to rape, a lot, and their inability to do much more than whine doesn't raise their status with me. Slobber all over them if you will, I got other fish to fry. Giap was dirt, he's dead, good. I'm a Viet-Nam combat veteran, and to all those who DIDN'T go and fight, STFU, Mike excluded from that.

loved the parts of the article where this Quisling whom enslaved his people to the gods of Marxism, Russia, and China talks about freedom and independence.

Delusion like that, documented is worth noting.
