Special Forces soldiers drop plan to ‘infiltrate’ Utah

Army Special Forces soldiers will not "infiltrate" Utah communities this summer — a plan that had riled residents suspicious of the government’s motives. Green Berets had planned to parachute into several central Utah counties, cross mountains and work with Utahns who would be playing roles as resisters to an enemy regime.

I guess dropping in by parachute and crossing mountains makes sense given the fact Utah does not have cars and highways. Doh!!

A soldier was shot and killed by a local LEO during a Robin Sage exercise in NC in 2002. Seems the deputy didn't get the word about the exercise.

I am not in Utah but I am a resister to the enemy regime now.
Can they come to Ohio and help us???? PLEASE?

"Pineland" gets infiltrated and overthrown regularly and they seem to be doing fine. Of all the gov't people to worry about the Green Berets are at the bottom of the list IMHO. A much better strategy for concerned Utahovites would be to invite them in, make friends, and get some experience at isurgency under the guidance of some experts.

Makes me wonder if it was really the "residents" who were alarmed, or if the White House was afraid of giving its own resistance a dry run.

you have weather and terrain that very closely resembles that of areas of the ME, this would have been great training for these guys. After reading the article, it looks like libs n loons were complaining the loudest, shit about unstable Soldiers hurting the locals, dropping off spies to watch the locals and other crap. I have spent a lot of time being trained by Group. You will probably not find a more pro Constitutional bunch of people in the Army. One told me they often look on the rest of the Army as potential governmental mindless tools.

Sounds like Robin Sage.

Now that Colorado is disarming, perhaps the limp wrist twits there will welcome them!

How is that substantially different from Robin Sage?

Good idea they dropped those plans. Not everyone would get the memo, and it wouldn't take much to light the fuse.

Maybe that's part of the plan...

"The Defense Department wants the soldiers to have fresh training in skills at the heart of Special Forces’ mission, such as covertly cultivating relationships with regular citizens and training resistance forces trying to liberate themselves from oppressive governments, said Col. Robert Dunton, a special projects officer for the Utah National Guard who was helping organize the exercise."

What am I missing? Sounds like a "Red Dawn" kind of scenario. I'd rather have our specop warriors practicing that kind of scenario, than the kind that Dear Sis keeps imagining (where the "resistance" is someone labeled a "terrorist" just because they oppose "big government").

Would have been the perfect cover operation to get some very useful equipment into the hands of FREEFOR due to destruction in training.

"Anonymous" at 1205 got it right: the Pinelanders in NC have done well with Robin Sage. The Ubangiis (sorry Charlie, they are not Utahovites) would most likely treat a Robin Sage exercise real well.

As you say, meet them, greet them, make some friends, and learn some shit. I do think that US Army Special Forces units will do the right thing. That is a narrow prediction re the Big Army, but I think that it is accurate.

Utah is the loser in this gambit.

Too bad it got cancelled, people in Utah could have networked some.

Strange they didn't mention the 19th SFG (UTNG), based in Layton, UT.
I trained with them, 5th and 7th SFG at Ft. Bragg, NC in '76. We were all going thru Counter Guerrilla Warfare School, doing exactly what this operation was supposed to be about. They do it every year, it's great training for all involved, but I can't blame the local civilians getting pissed, keep it on base and all will be a lot happier and safer.

It would seem that modern day green beanies arent made of the same cloth as their OG's.. these guys need to look back on their history and ask forgiveness.. for fear that ghost from missions past come back to claim their due.
Just about anything is possible if you believe.

This is most likely the Quislings at the Salt Lake Tribune Shitting themselves again.

Given all the big training events out here in Utah I am surprised any one would oppose this. Or care all that much.
Manti where the focus of opposition seems to come from however, has some unique political issues.

Most of us are so used to military training exercises in this state that I doubt it would be all that noticed.

As a funny aside the retired Special Forces community in Utah has a tradition of having a little fun with the new guys when they train here.
