86-year-old sniper still has perfect aim

Ted Gundy,an 86-year-old World Wat II sniper, was awarded the “black hat,” one of the highest awards of the marksmanship unit, during his visit to Ft. Benning, Ga. He got a few other surprises along the way.
He was presented with an exact replica of the rifle he used during the Battles of the Buldge and Bastogne, a 1903 Springfield A4 sniper rifle. It must have seemed like old home week as he hit the target — three hits for three shots — at three hundred yards — three football fields.
He was then given the opportunity to try modern equipment on a target 1,000 yards away. The Remington 700 is, according to the video, “one of the most accurate rifles in the world.”
At 1,000 yards, for every mile per hour of crosswind, the bullet moves 10 inches. Just like with the WWII-era Springfield at 300 yards, Gundy hit three for three with the Remington at 1,000.
Once you got it, you don’t lose it.

If the target has it's head tilted so you can see up the nostrils, it is a lot easier to hit. Practice makes perfect.

The Republic will be a sorrier place when Mr. Gundy and the last of his generation pass. (I hope he was just like Walt Kowalski in the movie, Gran Torino.)

I believe a previous anonymous poster to one of your earlier articles, it might have been “One Hundred Heads”, claimed all of our elder brothers were incapable of useful activity and were prone to dying of diabetes. It seems from reading this news story that one older man is still able to accomplish quite a bit of useful work when he puts his mind to it.

300 yards is nothing for that '03, eather one of my 1903mk1s will hit a 1L bottle at 400 yards with ball ammo, useing open sights. Just 'cause somthing is old don't make it less dangerous.

That event was a couple of years ago.
