Victor Davis Hanson: Are We in Revolutionary Times? "Can you name one tyranny which was voted out of office?"

"Give the president credit. He has thrown down the gauntlet and essentially boasted: This is my vision of the way the new America should work — and if you don’t like it, try stopping me in November, if you dare."
You know, my good friend Bob Wright has long asked this question in speeches and talks he's given around the country:
"Can you name one tyranny which was voted out of office?"
His point? Tyrants don't allow, or respond to, fair elections. Tyrants and their minions respond only to guns pointed at their heads, and usually somebody has to pull the trigger to get them to stop preying upon the people.

Astounding events.
Watching the news today is like watching a water ballon get bigger and bigger while filling up. It just keeps swelling to impossible size and you think to yourself, "How much bigger can it possibly get before it bursts"?

Difficult decisions are coming.

It was the truth of obama and his ilk before the usurper was even installed in the white house.

After all, it was their intention at the end of the long march to install a tyrant such as he to do the things that could not be done without tyranny in the highest offices in the land.

- John F. Kennedy

Can you name more than one Constitutional Republic in the history of man?

This is the only one.

It is easy to compare our situation today to past encroachments of tyranny upon other systems of government.

This ain't over yet. America and her people who believe in this system of government ain't done yet.

"When Democracy Becomes Tyranny...I STILL get to vote."

Or more succinctly:

"It is not ours to restore the power of the Constitution. It is ours to show them the wrath of America without the protections the Constitution offers them.

Let them restore it to find refuge from us."

– TL Davis

VooDoo6 Actual

There is no question that we have a rogue president & administration that is apparently willing to follow into the abyss of tyranny without constitutional compliance. I'm astounded at the comments, opinions & OP Ed's I read from some Law Enforcement supportive
of the tyranny. Consequently, my circle has become smaller probably like many of you. Continued on this azimuth of reckless scorched Earth & future Geopolitical relationships serves what purpose ? Not to mention blowback / damage control regardless of outcome there is so much to consider after & IF we make it through as a intact Republic. Even if we make it through this administration, the freedoms we have enjoyed are gonzo because we are all aware that the Wolf is at the door. To think this guy won the Nobel Peace Prize demonstrates & takes my own realizations that I live in interesting times indeed & that $6.00 fortune cookie was right all along. Who'd a thunk ?

Yes, I think so. We are on the edge of revolutionary times. If anything, America has always been on the edge due to its very nature of existing in a world where Liberty is anathema to every other system of government on earth. Everyone wants us gone or wants to rule this Republic so they can get all the gold.

I don't think voting our way out of this is dead just yet. It is going to take a grass roots awakening, a movement, over a long period of time to overcome the entrenched tyranny and cultural corruption rampant within our system of government. It has taken what 80, or more years for the sons of a bitches to bring us to the brink? And the Fat Lady ain't singing yet.

Besides, when tyranny rules, I still get to vote. Just it ain't by ballot box.

Another great piece by Daniel Greenfield from another angle. Read the whole thing, this guy is usually spot on:

..."Making an argument against freedom is hard. That's why the left usually pretends that there isn't even an argument or an issue. That the question isn't even on the table, that it has never been on the table and that only a lunatic would put it on the table. Its first resort is to refuse to discuss the subject, its last resort is to drag out the children, the minorities or some other protected group, and accuse its enemies of being the reincarnation of the Third Reich. It did that in Wisconsin... and it lost.

The left knows that it is vulnerable here. That is why it uses guilt and shame, social intimidation, and whatever legal measures it can to make people fall into line. It disguises its agenda, it pretends to be more reasonable than it is, it plays a double game-- and it does everything possible to stave off this kind of popular uprising. Because it has no defense against populism. It is an elitist ruling class pretending to be populist. Its idea of populism is to encourage half the population to attack the other half, while telling the first half that they represent the 99 percent and the other half represents the 1 percent.

The United States does not yet have the system in place to allow for a complete suspension of popular rule, the way that Europe does. Federal judges have become more obnoxious in exercising completely illegal authority to supersede the results of democratic elections. They have dictated what those results should be and reshaped the conditions on the ground to control the outcome. But they don't have complete power yet. Wisconsin is a reminder of what they are so afraid of. The rule of the people is a frightening thing to those who have made it their mission to rule over the people.

The left's greatest fear is the emergence of a new power relationship between populist politicians and a people looking for more freedom and less control. It is the thing that terrifies them and keeps them up nights. They know that such a power relationship has the potential to sweep away everything that they have done, all the intermediaries they have built up between the people and the government, all the insulation that keeps the people away from the centers of power and keeps the centers of power away from the people.

For me, I think the thing is, you got to embrace it, Revolution, you got to grab it by the throat, look it in the eyes, and decide, is this for me, am I in, when you do you realize there is nothing to be scared of, the boogy man is an empty suit, a king with no clothes, and you realize the real enemy is yourself. Always has been.
You realize, you are not alone, that Liberty takes many forms, manifests itself in myriad ways, that our time is at hand, that revolution is not revolution, but evolution of a people born into Liberty, that maybe we got to go through this tyranny bullshit, suffer this corruption of power and checks and balances, it is a test of our mettle, of who we are as individuals, our very Liberty, for us as a Republic, a nation of Liberty, to come out the other side better for it, wiser, more robust, than could otherwise be. This ain't our first revolutionary times, and each time, we found faith, and our savings grace, we learned and grew, we changed, as a people, as people, as a nation.

hmmm, that's odd - Hanson's original article at NRO now appears to have been edited removing reference to "tyranny being voted out" quote

will Mike allow himself to be censored as well (tongue-in-cheek, lol)

the censorship, if true, may be bigger story than the original article

Many people I interact with nowadays are desperately trying to hang on to what they have. OK. Not me. I have enough to get by but not to hang on to what I have, that seems so foolish and so last century.

But I am free and I am going to stay that way. Until the end.

Thanks to VDH for another reminder and continuing insight.

No. George Orwell wrote that.
