Perhaps the first time in a while I wished I lived closer to California.

Way cool.

Ha! Oxman's Surplus! I used to go there all the time as a kid with my brother. We bought our first woodland camo pants and jacket there so we could dress up as Army men for Halloween.

I went back there last year when I was visiting my family and took my little boys for some fun. Lot less stuff than it used to have, surplus wise, but they still had tons of parts and gadgets in the outdoor area. I remember wanting that missile as a kid. LOL.

Way cool, I remember the surplus store on main street, where you could buy uniforms, canteens, helmets, holsters, belts, backpacks, etc. a store in a neighboring town that I never had a chance to visit had a bazooka in the window. I found a store in another neighboring town where I could by electronics, like aviators heads sets. Then I discovered mail order surplus, from company's like John Meshan Jr, B&F Enterprises, Fair Radio Sales (still around), and many others. Wow the neat stuff you could get! (even saw Norton bomb sights) sadly those days are largely gone.

It's a most impressive story and collection, for sure!

In the small world category. The owner of the Ramona Cafe in the town where I live is one of the hot local pilots. He was on that recovery team for the Kee Bird mentioned in the article as the chief cook and bottle washer.

He recently changed the decor of the place, but for awhile it was WWII a aviation art oriented and had one of those propellers that the museum proprietor wished he could have bought back.

The full story of the recovery effort was on the front page of the menu.
