A Patriot has passed on today.

Mike Vanderboegh, husband, father of three, and founder of the III% movement passed peacefully in his beloved Alabama home today.

In life, he fought tirelessly to restore the liberties that we had taken for granted. Because of his leadership and the movement that he created, we take them for granted no more. He was able to awaken minds to the possibility that a determined minority of free people could accomplish anything; so long as they did it together. They did not need a leader. They needed a cause and a banner from which to advance the cause of freedom. The III percent is that cause.

Mike continued to give everything after so much had been taken away by the illness. Through his struggle he became a symbol of what can be accomplished if we only have the indomitable will to make it happen. Through his words he was able to breathe life into the sails of a resurging Patriot movement. His work may be done, but for those that remain, it is just beginning,

A Patriot died today. But his work will live on in the everyday push for freedom. His was a voice that was made silent, but his work will continue to echo so long as free men and women have the means to resist The future doesn’t belong to the craven; it belongs to the brave.

My most sincere condolences to everyone in Mike's family. I never met him, and thus only knew him through this blog, but I liked what I saw - a man who loved his family and his nation, and who was doing his utmost, despite a serious illness, to defend his country and its culture against those who would destroy it.

I hope that we can all be inspired by his actions AND words, but I hope more that his family can be comforted by their memories of him, and the knowledge that he was nothing more and nothing less than a decent human being.

I will miss him, as will many (especially those who actually knew and loved him), but I also know that he would have said about this change in his life words to the effect of: "Remember me occasionally, but never give up the fight for what you know is right. Don't let the fact that I'm not here anymore stop you - get up, march to the front lines and start hitting the enemy hard."

R.I.P., Mike.

Godspeed to the Vanderboegh family.

And, I'll see you on the other side, Mike.

Today is also, apparently, the anniversary of two other relevant events in history.

32 years ago today, on August 10, 1984, the (original, not the almost completely different 2012 remake) of Red Dawn was released.

And even more significant is that in 1776 the news of the Declaration of Independence reached London.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; * for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff comfort me.
5 Thou shalt prepare a table before me in the presence of them that trouble me; * thou hast anointed my head with oil, and my cup shall be full.

I wish there were a more tangible way I could thank you and your family for not only letting him be part of all our lives but carrying on his example and becoming a living embodiment of how we should all aspire to be; teaching by living the lesson of carrying on in the face of ultimate adversity and never quitting. All I can offer are these tawdry words of gratitude, prayers, the promise to abide by Mike's catechism and to let you know my III flag is half mast. God bless you all and rest easy knowing Mike is at peace in eternity with our heavenly father, making ready the way for his family to join him someday. Godbless you VanderBoeghs.

What to write here about a true Patriot that many words have been written and many prayers have been said?

Mike lived an interesting and fruitful life. Let each of us learn from that and move on, keeping him on our minds as we trudge through this existence. The world is a lesser place now, but Mike is with our Creator and is no longer in pain and for that we should be grateful. I welcomed his teachings and although we didn't agree on everything, I learned a great amount from a man that was a great teacher of how to live and how to not accept the downfall of this great nation.

May you Rest In Peace Mike. You will be missed, by family, by friends, and by those whose heart and soul you have touched through your writings and your actions. With the Grace of God and your teachings, we shall overcome the tribulations that are imminently upon us.

The Old Smuggler
- For MBV

The old smuggler passed away
And left us standing there that day
Mourning him as well we ought,
And thinking hard of all he taught,

That life was sweet and liberty good
Things worth defending if we would
Just take the time to understand,
Get off our butts and use our hands.

To work hard every day and night,
To make their "wrongs" into our "rights"!
Be bold, be brave, hold up your head.
Recall what that old smuggler said:

"Defy the ones who tell you "NO!",
Resist them everywhere you go,
Evade them when they do oppose,
& Smuggle it In, right under their nose!"

"And be the one who does what's right,
And get in shape to win your fight,
And don't strike first or cause alarm,
And put no innocents to harm."

His ghost I saw and said to me;
"God, country, home and family.
These the center of life's joy,
These the things they can't destroy!"

His ghost then turned, I saw a grin,
"My troubles over; yours begin.
Your fight is coming, plain to see,
So don't you worry none for me,

"If Heaven will be my reward,
Then freedom waits there on that shore.
But if the other place suppose...
I'll just smuggle myself outta there,
right under their nose!"

- God Bless All the smugglers!

I never had many heroes in my life. So few ever managed to measure up. But Mike Vanderboegh was a hero to me. Not only was he one of our great writers, but he was the sort of person American men aspire to be: authentic Christian, good father, clear-headed patriot, friend to many, fearless communicator, reliable strategist, indefatigable warrior.... Mike knew what it meant to put on the full armor of God, because he knew fully well that "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

I rest assured that Mike Vanderboegh sits at the Lord's Table, in a place of great honor. May God's peace give comfort to his family, and to all the soldiers in his Three Percent movement. My confidence grows daily in his son Matt's ability to carry the fire.

Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw

My thoughts and prayers to your family.

I first discovered Sipsey Street Irregulars on my second tour in Iraq around 2008 timeframe. I don't remember exactly how, I think it may have been Survivalblog, but on it, Mike brought a view to the table that differed greatly from the milita crowd of the 70s/80s. Mike had been a big part of the opposition, and knew their doctrine. That realization was needed, as a lot of the old voices had played themselves out among the masses.

He, like most driven individuals, could be a polarizing figure, but the message always remained clear. We as a nation wouldn't have known the criminal actions of the Obama administration had it not been for him. Lots of accusations, as always, but Mike had proof. He proved it, and in doing so, he also proved to many that despite everything and how much they try to wear us down, voices still matter. Never hold your tongue for anyone.

May God send His Blessing upon all of you during this hard time.

Rest in Peace, Mike. Condolences and prayers for Mikes family and friends who will miss him so much.
Teachers are sent, students listen. I hope we are all listening to the reverberations of Mikes words and actions in defense of liberty.....we will soon need his wisdom and intellect and heart as reminders of how much more is yet to be done to sustain what is left and reclaim what has been lost.
Godspeed Mike, thank you.

"An honest man here lies at rest,
As e’er God with His image blest:
The friend of man, the friend of truth;
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:
If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this."

Robert Burns

Rest easy, Mike, your perspective and ideas will not soon be forgotten.

Miss Me, But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road,
and the sun has set for me.
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little – but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that was once shared.
Miss me, but let me go.
For this journey we all must take, and each must go alone.
It’s all part of the master’s plan, a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends we know.
Bear your sorrow in good deeds. Miss me, but let me go.

God bless you Mike and all that you did to inspire others, like me, to exercise my constitutional rights and freedoms. Your legacy will live on, if only with the 3%. May God bless and keep your loved ones.

His legacy will live on through all of us; as we carry with us torches lit by the flames of his torch, resolve hardened by his inspiration, and armed with weaponized idea that was his brainchild.

Condolences to your family, I am sure the Vikings in Vahalla are raising their mead glasses in honor that another warrior has joined them. I knew Mike only through his writings and that Mike and David humiliated the Obungler administration in think in with they tried to gin up a crisis with their back door attack on the second amendment. I remembered when the news broke after Hillary was parroting the party line about 95% of the guns involved in the crime in Mexico and it comes out that the ATF allowed guns to walk into Mexico to run up a body count and generate a crisis that the Obungler administration would then offer a solution....more Gun control. Lenin said it best...the means justify the end. Mike and David did the work of real journalist, not the hacks in the D.C press corp that parrot the latest talking points from the DNC. Mike's work on behalf of free people will not be forgotten.

I have no words adequate to express the debt which each and everyone of us owes to Mike Vanderboegh, nor to give an accounting of the courage and intelligence of his battles for Liberty.

We are so much richer for his example and efforts and poorer for his passing. Who will fill that void?

I offer this, that there is relief for the end of his physical suffering, and joy that he is now in Peace and Glory with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mike, you will go down in history as a New Founding Father in Liberty.
I for one will carry on your message and your dream until I too succumb to the ravages of life. Then we can meet again under that big old tree across the river with all of our friends and loved ones who have gone before us.

Over the years I've seen the passing of my parents, a wife and a child. I grieved for each of them in turn. Mike's passing seems to have left a different sort of hole in my life, one that I find difficult to fill. I only met him once but I knew as I shook his hand that - diminutive in stature as he was, he was a giant among men and I was honored to be in his presence.

Rest in peace, my friend.

My name is Idan Greenberg, I want to express my condolences to the family & friends of Mike Vanderboegh. Mike offered rare support to me and my co-defendant Randall Rodman during and after our wrongful prosecution and incarceration by the ATF/ Holder Justice Dept. We were both later exonerated of the "in error" 4 point sentence enhancement of "firearms trafficking". This resulted in a somewhat lessening of our sentences. I was finally released on 8/13/2015 without halfway house, or home confinement to 3 years of "supervised release", but am restricted during this time to the State of Arizona, except by special written permission of the probation officer and usually a court order. I had ended up doing 3 days under 2 years in the Federal prison system, for in my and Mike's opinion, no crime committed whatsoever. To my knowledge Randall Rodman is still suffering incarceration. And all over nothing other than the ATF's & current administration's desire to eliminate as many FFL & class 3 holder's as possible, towards their assault on our 2nd amendment. I was recently given the upgraded status of the less intrusive administrative probation and hope to file a motion to be taken off supervised release completely, in the next month to 5 months, depending on the policies of the local Federal District court. In time I hope to engage a law school's center for wrongful convictions to have mine & Randall Rodman's convictions overturned and regain my 2nd Amendment rights. I regret most profoundly that I will not be able to meet Mike face to face to tell him that we have won, when that day comes. As an aside, my Father, a decorated WWII vet, died of cancer, after a long battle, as a relatively young man. So I truly sympathize with Mike's family. THE MAN SHALL BE MISSED, BUT I TRUST HIS WORK GOES ON. SHALOM & SINCERELY, IDAN GREENBERG
