A number of ironies here. Chief among them is the "No Open Carry" sign.

Customer who killed gunman in Dallas Co. store called "Good Samaritan"

""The deceased individual had his in his hand, waving it. The customer actually had one in a holster covered up. We're in the process of checking on permits and all of that. To have a gun concealed, you need a permit. To carry it open carry, you don't. But you have a sign in a place of business, that's letting you know that the people inside that place of business do not want guns in there," the sheriff said.

...

"You have one individual waving a gun and you have another one who shoots the one waving the gun. Some people say that's justifiable. Then you're going to have some who says it's not. I think we need to get all of the information we can get from everybody and then go forward from there," the sheriff said in an interview."

Really? Sounds like it is time for a new sheriff, one who does not presume that everyone else is as dumb as a hammer. If someone points a gun at me, the implied threat is clear and will evoke the appropriate response. The posted sign only states that open carry is not allowed, will be prosecuted and that the sign was provided by the sheriff. As it was, the only one openly carrying a weapon was the man who was shot. What would that sheriff's response be if it was him that had a weapon pointed at?

Among the comments to that story was this from one Laura MacIvor Butler · of Montgomery: "It will be a sad day when only the bad guys have the guns."

I replied as follows:
Unfortunately, Ma'am, if some people have their way, that day WILL COME! Moreover, it will come sooner rather than later. If certain people have their way, only criminals - whether the regular kind or members of the world's largest criminal street gang (hint: popo) - will have guns and we the people will be disarmed and at the mercy of people not known for being merciful.

There's only about a hundred years of left wing anti-gun bias evident here that needs to be trained/retrained out of our police forces nation wide and many of our citizens as well. As an example, not long ago a story was published about a police involved shooting in NYC. it seems that a uniformed NYPD officer was dispatched to a scene to provide backup for an undercover officer. Upon reaching the area he saw an African-American male running down the street with a drawn gun. The uniformed officer drew his sidearm and shot the other man dead only to find out that the deceased was the plain clothes officer he was there to assist. The NYPD undertook to recover all their people that a black man with a gun was not necessarily a perp. They called it "sensitivity training".

One need only review the incidents of schools locked down because someone saw a man carrying an assault rifle (umbrella, ROTC drill rifle, water pipe) to get an idea just how deep the problem goes.

Seeing someone with a gun in your vicinity is not reason to wet your pants, call the SWAT team, or shoot him dead. The good guys with guns far outnumber the bad guys with guns regardless of what Hollywood or your local political fool has told you.
