Mike, I'm rather surprised to see you quoting from the one of the major neocon propaganda organs, The Weekly Standard. The late Irving Krystol, one of the founders of the Trotskyite neocon movement, and now his son, Bill Krystol, are major architects of the current US foreign policies, particularly the Israeli-centric part of it.
They're progressive thugs in Republican drag and always have been.
The generally very pacifistic Japanese public is still extremely pissed off about the poisoned pet food and dangerous toys Chinese companies exported to Japan. If anything turns Japan militaristic again, it would be an aggressive China. Daniel K Day
The way people treat Chinese land claims amazes me. They made baseless claims to the entirety of east Asia 100 years ago and no one calls them on their attempts to "reassert their historic claim to dispossessed Chinese lands".
The Chinese in general have a huge chip on their shoulders against much of the rest of the world, but especially Britain, Russia, US and Japan. It is a no-brainer that any kind of domestic combat will be used by them as an opportunity to assume it's their turn to become imperialist. No more Hermit Kingdom, they'll assert the economic and military power bestowed upon them by generations of American elitist traitors to knock the USA off the pedestal of Number One sooner than projected.
trust society vs. enforcement society: front porch and walkway from sidewalk vs. Afghan-style high-walled-compound. If you aren't my tribe, "I owe you nothing and will take as much as I can get away with" vs. The Golden Rule. This has already happened in the lawless areas of the US SW and Norte Mexico.

But the Chinese are our "allies" our "friends."
Does anyone really believe that?
Of course they do. ABC,NBC,CBS, CNN and MSNBC said so, among the other Marxists who have always supported them and the Soviets.
All ya gotta do is lie loud enough and long enough. Oh, and drown out anyone who says otherwise.
Did you ever wonder if they're being paid or if they just hate their birth country so much that they do treason for free?
At least the writings of Sun Tzu are in English now.
Obama wants to sell them some C-130 Hercules cargo planes to help them out. Latest electronics and all.
WE can't get M1 rifles back from South Korea because "they might be used for illicit puropses," but...

Cheers.
China isn't a threat to America, Mexico is a the threat, the US government itself is the greatest threat to America currently in existence.
I always laugh when I see the "Bill Gertz" propaganda sally forth when China is mentioned as a threat.
Few know Chinese history before the 19th century, fewer still know Chinese culture(s).
China just barely keeps itself together, much less engaging in foreign military ventures ala the US government.
