Off topic, but have been thinking about this for a while.
I've been watching the news from Hong Kong with great interest, even when it isn't front page news. There we see a bunch of peaceful students, with some support from their elders, asking for something very simple: Let anyone who wants on the ballot, onto the ballot. Then have free and fair elections. That's pretty much it. And they are not only peaceful, but polite -- sorting their recycling while keeping their areas litter-free, helping people cross the street, etc.
I think about this: What if everything was the same, the reasonable demands, the peacefulness, the neatness, but with one difference. What if the Chinese government knew that every protester could go home to an apartment containing a safe holding an AR-15 and 1000rds of ammo. The gun doesn't need to come out of the safe into the light of day -- the government just has to know it is there.
Do you think the Chinese government would be reacting differently? I do.
The Hong Kong students have convinced me that a lot can be accomplished with a clean, tidy, polite protest -- as long as the government understands the price of ignoring it.
A Berkeley professor, well there's a surprise. These people are really, REALLY, sick in the head!! No, it's not that Obama's black that I hate his friggin' guts, it's because he's a Leninist POS that dances to whatever tune the shadow elite tell him to dance to. Let a black man like the sheriff of Milwaukee County run for POTUS and watch how fast I vote for him. Guys like the prof. make everything a race issue, to the point that I'm numb to anything labeled racist. He wants to call me a racist fine; who cares, he's a smug asshole anyway.
