As someone who has worked in the capacity of Range Safety Officer at ranges that are both private and open to the public, I can tell you that lack of muzzle discipline chaps my ass royally. Now, consider for a moment the gall of an idiot who, when confronted about this dangerously negligent habit, responds with "It's ok, it's not loaded". That response puts me right up a tree! Oddly enough, I have been called a "Range Nazi" for becoming angry. I have often wondered what the response of these callous morons would be if I suddenly took their firearm, shoved in their mouth and ask, "are you absolutely certain that the gun is unloaded?"
I can also tell you that I have frequently seen this kind of idiocy among cops....maybe that's not such a bad thing, but I sure don't want to be the clean up guy on the day one of them ND's himself or another. Neither do I wish to deal with the mountain of paperwork or bad publicity that would follow.
Like I said before, I would rather have 12 well trained, properly commanded men, than 50 volunteers if I needed protection. One slip of a finger on the trigger and the Battle of Bunkerville could have been a bloodbath.
If the second amendment had been respected all along, the militia would be well regulated - said another way..... had gun control not taken root, people would be practiced in gun safety issues like muzzle awareness.
Ironic huh? Because the rights of owning and carrying have been violated, it's true purpose for being is indeed affected negatively on the "general welfare" front. Public safety is actually HARMED by gun control laws.
Our Constitution would work if gubmint would stop ignoring it.
