I remember the old bugaboo about "Saturday Night Specials", which was a derogatory term that related to black Americans and firearms.
It was a ploy to disarm a certain portion of society, one that generally had lower income then, by criminalizing the inexpensive, often foreign made, firearms that were sold for inflated prices in the cities.
Those firearms were often the only things blacks could afford at the time.
During the American Revolution, black citizens joined with whites to fight off the British. I remember reading once that the proportion of blacks who fought for the British was negligible.
