Interesting to note that when the handgun was removed there was not concern for muzzle safety. The gentlman was swept with is own gun by the officer removing is and the officer to which it was handed failed to secure it.
Take everything CJ Grisham writes with a BIG grain of salt. Whether it is Alabama, Afghanistan, or Texas, he is always in some sort of confrontation. He goes out of his way to piss people off so he can get more attention. His mantra seems to be, "Pay attention to poor, pitiful me. I'm being picked on!"
Declaring that the law doesn't matter is a stupid precedent for a cop to establish. Do they really want to open that Pandora's Box? After all, if cops feel that they can do as they please, then folks will start responding to them in kind. The greatest flaw with the "elite" mentality that so many cops suffer from is the speed at which reality can expose that flaw for what it is - a fantasy.
I wonder if the post CG can call all soldiers and their families on post, and restrict them. I think the town needs the troops, more then the troops need the town. Ecnomic strike and warfare. Let the town dry up and blow away.
I've seen it before when Ft Huachuca went on a total deployment, and Sierra Vista almost died.
The fact that these citizens are soldiers is not relevant. What is relevant is that these citizens know the law and are not intimidated by those who would "enforce" non-existent law. If those ignorant of the law call police to complain of mere peaceable weapons possession, then they should be informed that it is lawful activity, their name and address taken, and an information packet mailed to them with the warning to not call 911 again for similar activity.
One of these days, SOMEONE will turn the tables -- get the drop on and arrest the officer, then take his gun AND BADGE, on the premise that those entrusted to enforce the law are a greater danger to the public when they violate the law.

Mike,
I'm not sure I fully understand. Why is it, again, we are holding back from using the means of justice guaranteed us by the Constitution?

If the Base Commander had any nuggets he would order Ft Hood military personnel to carry their issue weapons at all times.

Turnabout is fair play...
