Collectivist argues for, big surprise, more collectivism.

Author Michael Grunwald lives in an era, or dimension, where government isn't involved in terror attacks. Government is efficient, motivated and staffed with selfless individuals, of the people, for the people, by the people. A great guardian angel, keeping us safe from ourselves. Where do these people come from?

"Just as the First Amendment doesn’t let us shout “Fire!” in a crowded theater, the Second Amendment shouldn’t let us have assault weapons designed for mass slaughter."

Good grief . The "fire" analogy being used again . Sadly , as usual , it is taken out of context and misrepresented . Yelling fire , when there is no fire, is an act meant to cause disruption/harm . It is NOT a form of free speech .

Just as having your 2A rights , it is the ACTS done under the guise of the right . Murder itself is illegal .

I just looooove that reference to the 1st Amendment. Like one reasonable infringement - with immediate and recognizable public safety concerns - justifies any and all infringement on the 2nd Amendment.

I'd add that shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater IS NOT, IN FACT, ILLEGAL, if there's a fire. Yelling "Fire!" when there isn't a fire is a criminal act, complete with criminal intent.

Owning a firearm - or any weapon, up to artillery, armor, and yes, even nukes - does not, in itself, constitute intent to commit a crime. 80 million legal gun owners in America - every one of whom did NOT go out last night and shoot up a school, knock over a convenience store, or escalate a neighborly dispute to lethal force - would agree.

So why is that so hard for the statists and collectivists to get?

Simple answer: they don't want to.
