This stupid gun writer needs to get himself a dictionary.

Carlos Hathcock in Vietnam.
in·fa·mous
1. having an extremely bad reputation: an infamous city.
2. deserving of or causing an evil reputation; shamefully malign; detestable: an infamous deed.
Future Rifles that Could Be Deadly Past Two miles.
"Long-range military snipers have been inching towards the 2-mile mark for generations. In 1967, infamous Marine sniper Carlos 'White Feather' Hathcock made a 2,286 yard shot from a modified .50-caliber M2 machinegun.
Carlos Hathcock "infamous"?!?!? Who is this idiot writer, a descendant of Ho Chi Minh?

I agree, probably not what the writer intended.

On the other hand, to the NVA and VC, Hathcock WAS infamous.

"This stupid gun writer needs to get himself a dictionary."

Don't forget the stupid editor that approved this execrable example of writing skill.

As a long time reader of gun rags I have noticed thousands of similar examples of marginal literacy among doofus gun scribes. I think the qualifications to be a "gun writer" consist of nothing more than having two opposable thumbs and some opinions. With the plethora of online gun sites, it has gotten even worse.

Our president is a decendant of Chairman Mao by way of Saul Alinsky and Bill Ayres. Uncle Ho may well be in the family tree somewhere.

I was startled to see a gun writer call a highly skilled "infamous" but I figure both the writer and editor are products of our fine government schools and don't know any better.

I really liked reading about the guns being developed. The Barrett 25x59 is scary. 25mm is damned near one inch. If the projectile is only twice as heavy then it must be half the length of a .50BMG otherwise it would be very nearly FOUR times as heavy. I have it on reliable testimony that a .50 will do NASTY things to something as large as a camel (don't make the owner any too happy either) I would not even want to IMAGINE what the projectile from a 25x50 would do to any living flesh it contacted. At least it'd be quick. I don't reckon you'd linger too long after taking one of those.

The problem is accuracy. One MOA at 2 miles is just about a yard. You would need .5 MOA or better to be able to reliably hit a man sized target at 2 miles. And that would be if he was standing up and waiting for you to kill him. If he's hiding behind something you'd need .25 MOA or better. Do they HAVE guns capable of that? I've often wondered if it would not be possible to use the distortion and doppler data from a laser pulse to not only derive range but to calculate windage. If that were so, it should be possible to ping the target (continuously?) and adjust the reticule so as to deliver the round round wherever the shooter wants. Of course such a laser gunsight would be fabulously, prohibitively expensive for anyone without the resources of a nation (or a friendly billionaire) to purchase. You'd almost have to have the spotter illuminating the target and the laser sight reading where the designated target is located.

Scary. Reckon they already have that and just haven't told us about it?

How about calling a gun firm a "MAFIA".That Son of a bitch didn't get his words wrong. He ment just what he wrote.

Jane Fonda would have called Hathcock "infamous" also. Perhaps the author of the article is blinded by hormones and in agreement with his secret love...

You know that guy wrote a Zombie book set in Gulf Shores didn't you?

Anyone these days can get a gig writing and there are thousands of articles written daily. People remember the good ones though.

I left this comment for them;

Carlos Hathcock infamous? Christopher Eger should go to a Marine base and spew such blasphemy. He would understand fully a good old fashioned Marine Corps ass woopin. Carlos Hathcock is a hero to every Marine.

Semper Fi.

Went to the link. Now reads "famous".

Writer Eger must have felt the heat: The sentence now reads, “In 1967, famous Marine sniper Carlos “White Feather” Hathcock made a 2,286 yard shot from a modified .50-caliber M2 machinegun.”

Maybe the writer was using the "Three Amigos" definition:

Another lickspittle of the agitprop press. It's the meme baby!
With just that one intentional misrepresentation of a man, an American with the courage and honor to do the hard things, the right stuff. It says everything what un-american's like this useful dupe think about Liberty.
What kind of piece of human shit writes like this?
An enemy of we the people that's who. An enemy combatant in a war on our Constitutional Rule of Law abiding arses, a mouthpiece of the mandarin's, part of the real entitlement class, the class of self appointed "elites", (there is nothing elite about these treasonous son of a bitches, quite the opposite), who believe they are born with some social entitlement of a demented leftist ideal of justification of telling fucking lies, part and parcel of an insidious narrative, so their agenda can be advanced at the expense of my Liberty and natural rights, so they can rule over me.
I don't think so.
What I think is this, and lets get something straight here, it is All about guns. Everything these scumbags do revolves ultimately about guns. It is guns that give these pieces of shit their power. It is guns that they fear. It is guns and everything pertaining to our liberty to arms that they must control if they are to take over our country, the ultimate teeth behind our Liberty, in order to rule with an iron fist. Ultimately it is guns that they must take from we of the people in order obtain that absolute power. It is guns they understand like none other are the real power behind anything. Guns in the hands of we the people is something that terrifies the elites. It is guns this system of government now lives by. It is guns that they use ultimately to enforce everything. It is guns that are the only thing that stands in the way of their totalitarianism.
It is guns, in the hands of We The People, more than anything in this great and terrible disaster they have created, that they fear most. Rightfully so. Because, from this nasty little prick who wrote this shitty little piece of propaganda to that usurper in the oval office, they know they have screwed the rest of us six ways to Sunday on their long march to tyranny, and a comeuppance is due them like no traitors or treasonous tyrants have ever deserved. They have left nothing sacred, violated everything and anything, where any means justifies their ends.

Any thing else is a cheap side show.
