The wages of gun control. London burns because they lack three things: firearms, the right to defend themselves and enough Korean grocers with AR-15s.

16,000 police to retake London: PM recalls Parliament as the police lose control of Britain's streets

A comment emailed to me by Ranger Rick from Instapundit:

The problem with comparing London and Korean shopkeepers is two fold. First, all the property owners and law abiding citizens have been disarmed. So unless a man is going to stab all these felons to death, there really is no self defense. And it’s hard to defend against flying molotov cocktails. And Second, the British Government has made it perfectly clear that they’re willing to incarcerate anyone who defends himself. They have proven this time and again by prosecuting the law abiding citizens who are afraid for their lives.

So in essence, the British government has effectively defanged their first responders in favor of their own police forces who are obviously inadequate to deal with this circumstance.

It’s wholesale surrender on a French scale.

LATER: The highly principled reasons behind the London riots.

In the spirit of "Never let a crisis go to waste" let's see what twisted logic is applied to this situation to support England's gun ban, and of course somehow the law-abiding American gun owner will ultimately be blamed for this.

"Just to show the cops 'n the rich people we can do what we want."

That's easy when the government won't let your victims do what they want - i.e. defend themselves.

As I read further about this, I remembered a book I read by Philip Caputo - Delcurso's Gallery. Nick Delcurso was a photojournalist in Beirut, Lebanon when literally all hell broke loose with various Muslim gangs ( one the journalists lovingly called the "Looney Tunes") shooting and killing each other for the hell of it. Caputo vividly described a Beirut street scene where "a burned corpse sat on the sidewalk against a skewed post with his hand out-stretched. Some wit dribbled a few coins into the hand."

One of his colleagues was lecturing a starry-eyed college kid that Beirut was just a preview of what the fall of civilization would look like. No good guys, no bad guys, just crazy guys with guns, and other crazy guys with bigger guns. The operative word there being "crazy" not guns. The irony is that urban cores - the veritable seats of civilization - is where anarchy such as happened in London will become the new normal. Civilized society will move to the God and gun clingers in flyover country.

I remember this well. Check out the news report at this link. The Korean shop owner footage starts at the 39 second mark. They were prepared, and thus, their business's were unscathed.

My sympathy cup is empty, Londoners deserve everything they get. Not once, but TWICE in history they have disarmed their population AND, their cops are stupid enough to not carry guns.

Won't bother me a bit if the entire city burns to the ground, they brought it on themselves.

P.S.
The arsonists tossing the molotovs should be shot through the head instantly before the bottle lands so they don't even get the chance to see it break and leave the bodies in the street for the others to see.

We have seen the enemy and he is us. The response to this will be more CCTV cameras and more victim disarmament. And the citizens of the UK only have themselves to blame for believing the BS.
In case people haven't noticed, I speak as a native Brit.

However, I don't see why you Americans are gloating - your rights are disappearing so fast it defies belief. Even we don't have a TSA.
