More village defense, this time in Mexico.

Of course the cops showed up to disarm the villagers.

Anyone who thinks that this is a war between the Mexican government and myriad cartels is definitely smoking something. This is a Mahdi militia free-for-all, and the government can't be trusted anymore than the cartels can. Hell, there have been cases of soldiers kidnapping, torturing, and killing police officers (municipal, state, ministerial, federal) and shoot-outs between groups of police officers allied to rival cartels. IT IS NUTS.

A great book on the topic is Murder City by Charles Bowden. If you're fluent in Spanish, a great place to get the real dope (no pun intended) on the Mexican collapse is youtube: just type "5antuario" (yes, with the number 5) and find his channel.
