A Brief Tutorial on the 550 Hilt Wrap

A Brief Tutorial on the 550 Hilt Wrap

by a guy who's been there, done that and cleaned his knife afterward on the other guy's teeshirt.

On the 550 hilt wrap, the way it has to be done is:

A: Get an Ek 'bowie' or copy (best way, as it's one piece of steel with a removable hilt).

B: Grind the existing grip off (as in the case of Cold Steel rubber grips-the worst handles ever, by the way)

C: Grind down the stacked leather of the Ka-Bar type knife or the micarta of the Randall type (not lots of people like to do that to a Randall.....)

D: Or have finger grooves ground into the micarta such as those Randall can provide on the Model 14 or the Model 12-9 with a 14 Grind on the blade.
