R.I.P., Colonel. Texas legend LTC T.R. Fehrenbach has crossed over to meet his Maker.

T.R. Fehrenbach made history read like the news.
The larger-than-life historian, author and longtime San Antonio Express-News columnist T.R. Fehrenbach died Sunday morning — leaving a Texas-size hole in the hearts of those touched by his storytelling and knack for breathing life into history.
The former head of the Texas Historical Commission, Fehrenbach died of a congenital heart condition at Northeast Baptist Hospital. He was 88.
My favorite quote from Fehrenbach's This Kind of War:
"They were probably as contented a group of American soldiery as had ever existed. They were like American youth everywhere. They believed the things their society had taught them to believe. They were cool, and confident and figured that the world was no sweat. It was not their fault that no one had told them that the real function of an army is to fight and that a soldier's destiny -- which few escape --is to suffer, and if need be, to die." -- T.R. Fehrenbach, This Kind of War.

Rest in Peace, sir. May flights of angels lead you to your home.
Prayers for all who suffer his loss, that they may be comforted.
