I love keeping with the tradition of the hunters of the 1800s and of course, the economical benefits of using BP handloads as opposed to expensive factory loads.

Buffalo Bore makes several "Magnum" versions of the buffalo cartridge, but I never tried them because they are WAY too powerful for my tastes. I mean, a 405 grain bullet traveling at over 1500 fps is a little too much for a standard silhouette rifle to take.

That is why I like black powder. It is also natural: all components of BP exist in Nature, and I like to keep it traditional :D

Only downside to BP: sulphuric acid. If you don't clean your gun immediately after using BP, the metal parts will look like an Abstract painting after a couple of hours. And by that, I don't mean in a good way at all.

Environmentally, BP does not cause any problems at all, maybe except some sulphur compounds, but these are present in such low quantitites they would not be able to create any acid rain or anything like that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7575061201749703300.post-71947816278253626722009-05-29T15:45:41.825-05:002009-05-29T15:45:41.825-05:00I have to disagree with Anonymous. With a wooden stock and being made mostly of high-carbon steel, there may be some decent argument that it is a "carbon storage device".

The point of a rifle is to project pellets accurately at a stand-off distance from invading hordes.
