Collectivists around the world agree. The people American people must be disarmed. Do you suppose Joe Biden will give them a seat on his shiny new "commission?"
Gravelly Point Park, Virginia, 19 April 2010.
The gun control drums continue to sound and Diane Feinstein
has graced us with the outline of her bill.
A summary of key provisions in the updated bill:
* Stops the sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing of more than 100 specifically-named firearms as well as certain semiautomatic rifles, handguns and shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds.
* Stops the sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing of large-capacity ammunition feeding devices (magazines, strips and drums) capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
* Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
o grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment;
o exempting more than 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting and sporting purposes; and
o exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons.
Even before I saw that, yesterday I replied to a question from overseas about how I saw the legislative fight shaping up. Here is my response, in part:
This time feels different as far as the legislative prospects for more restrictions go. There is an absolute WALL of media noise that doesn't even make a pretense of another perspective (even FOX has been swept along). The hysteria is unprecedented. Everything hinges on:
1. Will Boehner still be Speaker of the House next term? (if so, add twenty points to the antis side of the column) and
2. Will the NRA fold like a cheap suit like they did for GCA 68 and the AWB94? (Ditto).
The bill as introduced is said to grandfather existing weapons, but to ban further production and sale of Evil Black Rifles and their Kalashnikov competitors, seize control of private sales without NICS checksI wouldn't be able to gift a rifle to you without the Feds' approval in advance) and ban hi-cap magazines.
How then may we resist this? Mt Top Patriot left
this comment below that would be an excellent warning of the rattlesnake's tail:
I have an idea involving taking action, in a peaceful lawful manner.
An open march, in full kit, across flyover land. Just guys and girls in marshal parade, carrying their muskets, mess and kit. Peacefully, simply, fall in fall out as you desire. No destination, no declared intent, no overt conscious message, just a gathering hoofing it along. Ask folks along the road if they would care to provide a place for the marchers to bivouac for the night in their field or yard. A quiet gathering, calmly exercising the Constitutional freedoms to assemble, bear arms, cross states lines, unmolested. Respectfully. Lawfully. Peacefully. One big long color guard. You are supposed to have armed protection for Old Glory when on parade.
I like it. Each state or municipality could contribute a portion of the escort, picking it up as it crosses into their area and dropping off as it passes out, only to be taken up by folks on the other side. It would take a smaller core group and much planning and coordination with local authorities, but I like it. It could end at Gravelly Point Park in Virginia across the river from Mordor on the Potomac. This should be done while the bill is still being considered, if possible.
Whatever bill passes, if it passes, and it contains any of the above we are obliged to disobey it -- obnoxiously and flagrantly. If they ban hi-cap magazines, we must make more, sell existing ones openly; if they ban private sales, we must hold our own no-check gun shows; if they ban even one type of semi-auto military pattern rifle, we must build our own "assault weapons" in contravention of the odious act. We must anger the powers that be to the point where THEY come at US. No Fort Sumters on our part. Let them kill us if they want to work their will upon us. After that, and only after that, it becomes the time of 4th Generation Warfare and One Hundred Heads.
And, although this is not the way to bet, if we make all that plain ahead of time, perhaps they will get the message and back off. May God grant it to be so.

My Personal Pledge of Resistance Against Any Attemp to Disarm Us by Means of an “Assault Weapons Ban”
My conscience, and the urgency of our current situation, compel me to speak out. The victim disarmament freaks are now telling us that they don’t want to disarm us- oh, no! They just want to take away our “assault weapons” – our semi-automatic, magazine fed, military-style rifles – and the “high capacity” magazines that feed them. They want us to believe that so long as we can own some kind of firearm, after our semi-auto military rifles are taken, we are not disarmed. That is a LIE.
The truth is that our semi-automatic, military pattern rifles are the single most important kind of arm we can own, and are utterly necessary for effective defense of our lives, property, and liberty. When you are disarmed of your military rifles, you are DISARMED. At that time, the lion’s share of your military capacity to effectively resist tyranny is removed (yes, accurate bolt action hunting rifles are useful in that role too, but the semi-auto battle rifle is truly the Queen of battle, as Col. Jeff Cooper correctly noted). It is a significant force on the battlefield, and as Patrick Henry said, when you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined.
It is the height of Orwellian perversion of language and logic to say that disarming you of the most effective arms for combat that you still have is somehow not really disarming you, because you still have hunting rifles and shotguns. And you can bet that if you let them take your military semi-autos, next on their list will be your bolt action rifles, which they will call “sniper rifles” (and by God, that is certainly what they are good for!). And then when they have those, they will go after any weapon that holds more than a few rounds, or is capable of any degree of long range accuracy and penetrating power, telling you that you really don’t need one of those to hunt or target practice (a shotgun will suffice), and then they will take everything except single shot shotguns or .22’s (as was done in England) and on down the line. So long as you have at least a .22, they will say you are not “disarmed” while they take everything else (and then they will take the .22s, or insist that you keep them at a gun-range).
We need to call a spade a spade and teach our fellow citizens that taking away military style semi-autos is disarmament. And we need to throw down the gauntlet and take a hard stand against it, right now. When we, as Oath Keepers, pledged to not obey any orders to disarm the American people, this is what we meant. Any attempt to disarm the people of any arms currently in their possession is illegitimate and must be nullified, refused, disobeyed, and resisted.
Pistol purchased by ATF agent found at alleged cartel crime scene in Mexico.
CBS News has learned that two guns found in the area of a recent Mexican drug cartel shootout have been linked to Fast and Furious: One trafficked by a suspect in the case, and the other purchased by a federal agent.
Mexican beauty queen Susana Flores Maria Gamez and four others died in the brutal gun battle between Sinaloa cartel members and the Mexican military in November. CBS News has learned that an FN Herstal pistol recovered near the crime scene in November was originally purchased by an Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) manager who was faulted by the Inspector General in Operation Fast and Furious: George Gillett. Gillett was the Asst. Special Agent in Charge of ATF Phoenix when Fast and Furious began.
The Herstal pistol is nicknamed a "cop-killer" because of its designation as a "weapon of choice" for Mexican drug cartels. CBS News has learned the Inspector General planned to question Gillett today after a hastily-opened inquiry to determine how this agent's personal weapon got into the hands of suspected cartel members.
CBS News spoke to Gillett, who is still employed at ATF. Gillett acknowledged he once owned the weapon in question, but says he sold it in Phoenix sometime last year after advertising it on the Internet. He declined to provide the name of the man who bought it, but says he went "above and beyond" what was required by law to complete the firearms transaction. That included asking the purchaser to fill out a form giving personal information and stating that he was in the U.S. legally; and checking his driver's license, which Gillett said was issued in the U.S.
"I didn't do anything criminal," said Gillett, who calls himself a gun enthusiast. "I've been a gun collector all my life."
He told CBS News that he ran into financial difficulties in recent years and sold some of his firearms. Gillett says the Herstal pistol may have sold for approximately $1,100.
Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) wrote a letter
(PDF) to the Inspector General late today asking for an urgent investigation. Grassley included records from three of Gillett's gun purchases, so-called Form 4473's, and says that Gillett appears to have provided false information on them.
"Lying on a Form 4473 is a felony and can be punished by up to five years in prison," Grassley's letter states. The senator also points out that's the same alleged violation that suspects in ATF's Fast and Furious operation were arrested for. "Jaime Avila, Jr. recently plead guilty to a variety of charges" in Fast and Furious, including "for giving a false address on Form 4473."
Form 4473's require purchasers to list their current residential address. Gillett's gun purchase forms incorrectly list the local ATF Phoenix office and a shopping plaza as his personal residence, according to Grassley's letter.
Gillett did not comment on allegations about the address on the forms.
Can't find a link yet, but Larry appeared on the Piers Morgan show on CNN last night (caught the morning rebroadcast just now) and left Piers sputtering and calling Larry a "dangerous man." Outstanding!
