Newtown, politics and gun control
Already, a rough strategy is taking shape among Democrats in the Senate: Propose narrow, limited gun control measures such as improved background checks on gun buyers and bans on oversized ammunition magazines (like those used by the Newtown shooter), and then dare Republicans to oppose them. Those ideas appear to have broad support, even among many gun owners.
But that narrow approach may be preempted by Obama, who has asked his staff to draw up options for next year that could include broad legislation as well as lesser changes that can be made by executive order. Obama's spokesman said Tuesday that the president will support not only bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines but also tougher regulation of firearms sales at gun shows.
Just received this email from Rocky, the Lighthouse Survival Librarian:
We've put together a free Skills Library for Preppers. It's more of an "aftermath" library since it's made up of several thousand books from the 1800s through early 1900s. They're all public domain books or expired copyrights which are freely available however they're scattered across history libraries and other sources all over the world and can be time consuming to track down.
They detail skills and knowledge that has been lost in the last few generations but are the skills people would need to survive, rebuild and prosper in the aftermath of an EMP event, natural or manmade.
There are a few places that sell them collected on CDs but that's a barrier to some people and we felt they should be freely available to everyone. We're trying to spread the word about the library and we've set up information so any other websites who care to can also post the links directly to the books without having to actually host all of them (40gb-50gb).
The library isn't complete yet but it's growing rapidly and we expect it to continue growing. The number of books that are suitable for inclusion is huge and I've barely scratched the surface.

p.s. We run a commercial site but also want to openly contribute something to the Prepper community as well. So we're using the commercial site to sponsor the library.
Just received this email from a faithful reader:
I know some of y’all are CTD fans… They just posted this on their Facebook page.
“Cheaper Than Dirt! is suspending online sales of firearms effective immediately. We are reviewing our policy internally, and will continue to be the leader in the outdoor industry with our full line of gear and accessories.”
There are cheaper places out there anyway….

Pre-emptive surrender sufficient to make the French blush.

From a comment: "They are doing this because their investors are considering pulling money from them because they own the Freedom Group. BTW two of their largest investors are California Public Employee and Teachers pension funds. Two of the largest pension funds in the US."
Obama, Boehner move closer to ‘cliff’ deal. Good, if this gets rid of Boehner as Speaker before the fight over firearm rights, it will have been worth it. Heck, there's no way to save the whole, tottering structure anyway and if it collapses the whole gun control impetus goes down with it, since the only thing protecting the citizenry will be firearms in their own (or their neighbors') hands. Do I like that? Heck, no. I grieve for any innocents killed, especially in wars created by the grasping, selfish tyrannical bastards who almost always start them. The corrupt politicians and crony capitalists who milk the taxpayers with money printing, debt growth and other schemes ought to be hung. It's a choice, if there is a choice, between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. But consider that a 4th Generation civil war over firearms liberty will fall mostly on us, the ants, but an utter collapse of the economy and government -- especially federal government -- will fall heaviest on the grasshoppers in the cities. When the latter happens the best place to be is in a resilient community away from the cannibal zombie apocalypse. Is that selfish? You bet. It is nonetheless true. Both prospects are possible, if not probable, at this point. The only question is which happens first.

BY ALL MEANS, let's have your 'civil war,' so your tiny 3% can be plowed into the soil and we can civilize this country. We are much more eager for it than you are, you criminal, because we know we will bury you.
